If you are not feeling right in your body, the best thing that you can do is go and see a doctor. You know your body best and you know what feels normal for you. So whether or not you are feeling tired all the time, or you are urinating more frequently, or you are simply feeling sicker than usual and it doesn’t seem to be going away, you are within your right to ask your doctor for a blood test.

Blood tests give your doctor the opportunity to peer through the pathological state of your health. As blood is the one tissue that interacts with all other organs and tissues, it makes sense to check the blood to see if there’s a problem. For example, diabetics will regularly check their blood glucose levels to monitor their insulin because their blood gives them a window into what’s happening. The wonderful thing about your blood is it can tell you a lot about your health, even the stuff you can’t feel or see on the surface. It tells you about what’s functioning and whether your diet is working, whether your metabolism is where it should be, and whether your organs are healthy. So why should you ask for a blood test?

  • Blood tests will evaluate how well your organs are working right now. With the help of a blood test, your doctor is able to check whether or not your organs are functioning in the way that they are supposed to. When they are not functioning correctly, your organs will reflect that with high levels of specific hormones or enzymes. Blood tests are an accessible and preventative tool that can identify how well your organs are. A potassium count, for example, can assess the health of your kidneys. A glucose check can see whether or not your pancreas is going into overtime with insulin. A check on your bilirubin levels will determine whether your liver is healthy. All of these things will determine whether your organs are functioning in the way that they are supposed to.

  • Blood tests can shine a light on the causes of exhaustion. We all deal with tidiness from time to time, but fatigue takes tiredness to a whole other level. With the help of a simple blood test, you can find out the exact cause of your fatigue with the full blood count. This can count the number of blood cells in the blood, and if there are not enough of them, you may be diagnosed with anemia.

  • It can explain the unexplained. A blood test can help you to learn why you are rapidly losing or gaining weight. It can determine if your hair is falling out for a specific reason or if it’s just stress. Through a blood test of your thyroid, your GP will be able to measure the amount of hormones that are causing your body to go into overdrive or not. Blood tests are like the key at the end of a puzzle, they’ll be able to tell you exactly what’s going on.
