There are few better ways to mark a significant date in your relationship than with the help of a weekend away. This goes especially if you’re looking to surprise your other half with an impromptu trip. It’s a great way to inject a bit of novelty into the relationship. This will demonstrate that you’re sufficiently invested that you not only remember the anniversary, but that you’re willing to put the effort in to mark it appropriately. In many cases, where the date itself doesn’t fall on a weekend, it’s a good idea to shift your celebrations back (or forward) a little. Marking the day itself with something small, and then pulling the stops out when you have some free time. So, what makes a great anniversary weekend?

Go away somewhere

Of course, the easiest way to mark a special weekend is to find somewhere spectacular and romantic to get away. Book your accommodation and entertainment well in advance. This can be more affordable than you think, especially if you’re a key worker. If you work for the NHS, you can find a Premier Inn discount code online.

Plan a camping trip

If you’re an outdoorsy couple, then a night spent under the stars might be the perfect way to mark your time together. You might go on a long hike during the day and then retire into a sleeping bag for the evening. If you’re not prepared to go on a real camping trip, then you might try glamping instead, which ticks many of the same boxes.

Cook a perfect meal

The chances are good that your better half has a particular meal that they love more than any other. If you put in a little advance preparation and planning, then you can cook it for them. Since this is a special occasion, however, it’s worth doing a little troubleshooting, and taking your recipe to the next level. In many cases, this means looking up a few recipes and eliminating those mistakes. You might test the food on someone whose opinion you trust to let you know when the rice is overboiled or the pasta is under-seasoned.

Recreate your first date

Being nostalgic, you might recreate your very first date. If the venue is still in the same place, then this might be pretty straightforward – but even if it isn’t, you can go for something in the vicinity. If it was a trip to the bowling alley that first sparked your twenty-year relationship, then finding somewhere else to enjoy the same activity might be worthwhile.

Do some scrapbooking

A scrapbook makes for an extremely sentimental gift. Get some of the more significant photos on your phone printed out, and paste them into a suitably thick and special-looking book.
