Eating out at Siamais Thai restaurant, Birmingham

Last Friday I was invited to review Siamais, a relatively new Thai restaurant in the heart of Brindley Place in Birmingham City Centre. I met up with my friend Natalie from Plutonium Sox for a well overdue meet up and chat as well as enjoying the offerings on the menu.

The restaurant is stunning inside with bird cages hanging from the ceilings and oriental designs on the walls. We were seated in the heart of the restaurant and our friendly waiter gave us menus to choose from.

We were invited to try out their cocktail menu too which alas, I couldn’t try however, I did sample a couple of drinks from the Koh Mak (non-alcoholic) menu which were impressive. The first mocktail I enjoyed was the Banana and Pineapple Blend which was an alcohol-free Pina Colada. It came with it’s very own smoking banana aroma which was a wonderful treat, it was delicious! It’s not very often the mocktails are more impressive than the cocktails!

I really enjoy Thai food so was hoping that my pregnancy taste buds would allow me to enjoy the meal. Fortunately, I was having a good day and was able to order three courses from the menu.

After chatting to Natalie and casually reviewing the menu (we had so much to talk about!), we were prompted to choose our starters and mains from the menu. I ordered the Spring Rolls for starters which were served crispy with a spoon of plum sauce on the side and the Stir Fried Beef in Oyster Sauce served with steamed Jasmine Rice for my main.

Natalie is vegetarian so ordered the Mango Salad for starters and the Tofu in Choo Chee Paste. You can see Natalie’s review of her meal here.

Our meals were delicious. I really enjoyed my spring rolls and having never tried Plum Sauce before, I was happy I had tried something new. My stir fried beef dish was beautiful with tender slices of beef, onions and peppers served in a wonderful aromatic oyster sauce, it was again something new for me as I have always stayed away from oyster sauce but it was so good and really delicious.
