The Eclectic Glam Bedroom and How to Get the Look

When asked what interior decor style best describes us, sometimes it is hard to portray exactly what makes us happy. There are days when all we want is a minimalistic contemporary space, while other times, we fall in love with antique pieces, maximalist interiors, and extra bold colours. But who said you could not have both? The Eclectic Glam styles aim to do just that. Eclectic Glam is one of the most personal out of all decorating trends, and the eclectic glam style brings a mix of modern and traditional elements, global influences, patterns, warm tones, and deep vibrant colours. All in one room. 

The Eclectic Style is all about harmony and the coming together of disparate styles, juxtaposing textures and contrasting colours to create a cohesive and beautifully realized room. However, the new approach aims to combine this eclectic look with glam elements such as metallics for a fresh new look. It might come across as hard to master, but the following tips will give you that extra confidence you need to give it a try.

Mix Pieces from Different Eras 

One of the distinctive features of this trend is that it allows you to steal something from other styles and eras to make your space unique to you. Your inspiration can come from all over space and time for decades. The 1920’s Art Deco Movement with its sunburst motifs, geometric forms, and organic shapes to the eclectic and playful forms of postmodernism and eventually modern-day clean lines.  You can mix and match modern and traditional elements, antique rugs on Engineered Wood Flooring and chairs with contemporary bedroom furniture, and retro lighting with modern wallpapers. 

Seek for Commonalities

Regardless of your eclectic mix of elements, your space should remain visually balanced. A good technique to pull the look together is to seek common characteristics in your decorating pieces. You can create cohesion based on scale, colour, style, pattern, or texture. The easiest way to do this is by the clever use of colour.  Make sure you master your colour palette, be it complimentary or analogous. Repeat your colours throughout the space and use neutrals and negative space to balance out your décor. Neutral colours and pieces of furniture will act like a backdrop and an anchor, and it will allow the vibrant hues to shine even brighter.

Play with Scale 

In interior design, scale is an integral part of creating a harmonious space. Scale is relative and compares an item or space to something of a known size measured against another object. Human scale is a common reference you will find in spaces.  A nearly foolproof method to play with scale is applying the Golden Ratio. The Golden Ratio is used since ancient Greek and Roman times and is found in nature, musical sequences, famous works of arts, and for our purposes, room design.

If you look at a room and it does not look right, you will most likely find something in the wrong size or proportion.  In interior styling, the 60-30-10 rule is a trick often used by designers to create harmony, in which 60% of the room would be your furniture, 30% negative space (or walking space), and 10% your accessories.

Your collections, travel memories, and posters you thought you’d never use as they don’t match your home’s current style. Think of luxe materials and finishes, sumptuous shades, and textural materials. Consider touchable fabrics such as a crushed velvet bed, maybe for a bedroom statement. 

If you are looking to redecorate your bedroom for an Eclectic Glam look, opt for mismatched furniture, velvet, fur, mixed metal finishes, and mirrored furniture.

A Love of Colour and Pattern 

It is recommended for an eclectic glam look to blend rich tones with warmer hues to ensure a balanced decor. You are allowed to be more daring than usual by combining colour, textures, and patterns to create a cosy space.  So opt for rich tones such as emerald green or royal blue, but balance out the bold colours with warmer tones such as mustard and peaches. Play with patterns on the walls and floors, mix and match textures and materials to create something unique. A statement wallpaper or a large crushed velvet bed as your bedroom centrepiece, for example, will add extra doses of texture and pattern.  Make sure the patterns aren’t too related in style, but they hold common elements such as colour. For example, geometric patterns will work nicely with florals or chinoiserie patterns, tapestry with stripes.

Don’t Forget About the Glam Side 

To bring in the Glam in your eclectic interior, metallics are the perfect addition to combine with any texture. Think hand-crafted copper, pure brass, luxe gold, and polished pewters. Glamorous accessories such as glass coffee tables with gold geometrical bases should be your to-go-to pieces.  Consider mixing warm metals with your look and incorporate them in your bedroom accessories, such as in your photo frames, candlesticks, and lighting fixtures.
