There’s nothing easy about raising a toddler and trying to do it in the right way. It’s a huge responsibility and it’s a challenge that all parents should take seriously. But there’s nothing wrong with admitting it’s tough and wanting things to be a little easier at times. It’s what all parents want.
Luckily, there are lots of ways to make your life easier while doing your best for your toddler. That’s what we’re going to discuss in more depth below, so keep reading to find out more about the strategies that are most likely to work well for you. Each of them will serve you well.
Don’t be Afraid to Ask for Help
First of all, you should remind yourself that asking for help when it comes to looking after your child is nothing to be ashamed of and it certainly shouldn’t be looked at as a sign of weakness. When you ask for help and you take a break every now and then when you need it, you can really make a big difference to your mental health and how much energy you have. Even the very best parents need to have a break from being a parent from time to time. There’s nothing wrong in letting your family take the reins from time to time.
Prep the Night Before
Preparing things the evening before when you have a toddler makes a big difference. The morning routine can be tough and busy, and you don’t want to be rushing things all the time. You need to make sure that you’re ready for the next day before the day arrives. Having your schedule in place and clothes prepped and picked out, you’ll have a few less things to take care of in the morning. That’s the way it should be, and it’ll make a big difference.
Be Firm with the Bedtime Routine
A good bedtime routine will make a big difference to your kids and for you as a parent as well. When you have an inconsistent and messy bedtime routine, it’s bad for your kids because kids crave and need routine. And for you, you need a little time to yourself in the evening. You don’t want every night to be dominated by your kids and trying to get them to bed. Everyone should know what the routine is and how it works. It’s better for everyone that way.
Make Friends with Other Parents of a Similar Age
Having friends who are also parents of kids of a similar age to yours will make your life a lot easier for you and for them. It means you can help each other. When they need help with babysitting, you can have their kids and organize a playdate at your hours. And when you need a little help, they can return the favor and do the same for you and your kids. These kinds of arrangements make a big difference; having people you trust around you is always valuable as a parent.
Invest in the Right Pushchair
Investing in a good pushchair will make a huge difference to your day to day life. If you have a high quality model that’s easy to push, easy to fold up and fold down and comfortable for your child, it makes a huge difference to your day to day life. You’re going to need a pushchair for your toddler because they won’t want to walk everywhere and they’ll tire easily even when they do feel more comfortable walking. So investing in a good pushchair is one of the best steps you can take.
Stop Wasting Time on Little Things That Don’t Really Matter
When you’re constantly wasting time on little things that take up your day and stop you from focusing on the things that matter, that’s not great for you from a parenting point of view. You can free up time by not doing things like ironing and folding every piece of laundry. When your child is going to throw on those clothes and mess them up within minutes, it’s better to just keep them washed and stored in the drawer. Making them pristine and perfect is usually just a waste of time.
Make Use of Simple Distractions When it Makes Sense
There are lots of little things you can use as distractions when you’re busy and you don’t want to be spending huge amounts of time ensuring your child is attended to. For example, on long car journeys, you want to be able to focus on the driving and it’s easier to do that if your child is distracted and occupied by whichever gadget they’re enjoying using. Distractions aren’t a sin!
Shop for Used Clothes to Save
Shopping for used clothes is going to be a good way to save money as the parent of a toddler. We all know our kids grow fast and they don’t remain the same clothing size for very long when they’re this age. That’s why it never makes much sense to invest a lot of your money in new clothing that they’re going to grow out of in a matter of months. There are plenty of great used options out there.
Make Tidying Up a Fun Activity
It’s up to you to find ways to keep your home ticking over nicely while also keeping your kids on side. They need to understand that when they want to do an activity in the home, tidying up afterwards comes as part of the package. You can show them the importance of this by making tidying up a fun part of the activity too.
Parenting a toddler is never easy and it was never meant to be. But that doesn’t mean you can’t make it easier than it is right now. Each of the tips and ideas we’ve discussed above will have a cumulative impact on how easy you find each day. By making things a little easier in lots of small ways, you’ll notice a big overall impact.
