Life as a work-from-home Mum is busy. I’m often up late trying to get all the work commitments into my day before crashing into bed in the early hours exhausted. Don’t get me wrong, life is busy in a good way but busy and a tad stressful all the same. I’m always putting other family members before myself and sometimes that can be to my own detriment when health concerns crop up. I’ve recently been introduced to TestCard, which is an at-home, non-invasive UTI testing kit and it’s a great time saver!
What is TestCard?
The new TestCard testing kit turns a smartphone camera into a clinical-grade scanner to detect UTIs which can cause cystitis. The science in the kit is incredible! It combines a urine test kit embedded into a postcard, with the clever clinical scanning technology called colorimetry, on your smartphone app. The test kit strip acts like a dipstick and the user can find out the results of their test within a minute or so. It is fascinating.
Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) make life really miserable for many. It’s believed that half of all women in the UK will have a UTI at least once in their lifetime. TestCard wants to work in partnership with healthcare professionals to help minimise appointments and save healthcare professionals time. How incredible would it be to use award winning tech and science to quickly diagnose healthcare issues and have the ability to share the results with healthcare professionals within minutes?
How does it work?
The TestCard kit comes in a postcard and you’ll need access to a smartphone to take the test. You need to download the free TestCard app (available in the App Store and GooglePlay) onto your phone and step-by-step the app will tell you how to take the test. There’s also a really easy to understand video which you can play and replay if required.
Once you have opened up the test and registered it on the app, you can take a sample and dip your test card into your urine sample briefly before using the smartphone app to scan your results. The app will tell you exactly how long to wait and is very user-friendly.
Taking the test from start to finish took less time than making a cup of tea. It’s a really quick and easy way to detect a urinary tract infection (UTI), with the app showing immediate results that you can choose to share with your GP to help speed up diagnosis and treatment.
Taking control of my own health
Luckily for me, I didn’t have a UTI so I’m able to put my general achiness down to being a bit overworked. My test results were clear and it gave me a real peace of mind taking control of my own health on my own time and terms. The process fitted around my schedule and it’s incredible how quickly I got the results. How else do you get test results on a weekend evening?
I found the whole process really easy to follow, the use of the app is super clever and I feel confident in the science and technology that has allowed me to take the test. Should I have had an UTI I would have been able to ring the Doctors Surgery first thing on a Monday morning and get an appointment for treatment already in the knowledge that I had an UTI that needed treatment.
