Like many people following a particular diet plan, lockdown has been tough. Food shopping has been difficult with the restrictions, some food has been restricted or completely unavailable and prices seem to have sky rocketed. Combine that with money worries, the family all being at home and routines going to pot, following Slimming World just hasn’t been a priority. But now for me, it’s time to re-find the focus and follow these Slimming World tips for getting back on track.
According to a recent survey, 48% of people questioned have put on weight during lockdown. So it’s good to know I’m not alone. Personally, I know I have gained weight, I can see it, feel it and it’s making me feel sluggish so I know I need to address the balance and get back on track.
I have asked some of my instagram friends who have had incredible success on the Slimming World plan what their top tips are for getting back on track and this is the advice they can share.
Plan, Plan, Plan
Amy from Skinny Jeans and Baked Beans says “plan, plan, plan”. Meal planning is a huge step to making sure you have everything to hand for a great week on plan. Check out my meal plans with ideas for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There’s even a free meal planner to download to help you plan out your meals for the week.

Choose meals whilst being realistic
Gemma who shares her SW journey over at Slimmingworldxgemx says “plan and prepare your meals so that you choose meals according to your cravings, like a fakeaway” on a Friday night. Plan meals according to your schedule being realistic. If you’re a busy Mum, a 10 minute pizza wrap or a slow cooker meal. Plan a yummy breakfast for the weekend to set your days up, vary your meals to keep you on track and to stop you getting bored.
Plan your snacks and treats
Pippa from The Slimming Foodie suggests you plan your snacks and keep them in stock for when you are feeling peckish. This will stop you veering off track knowing you can have a delicious treat which you have already worked out the syns for and accounted for.
Be Inspired
The internet can be a fantastic source of inspiration to help you get back on plan. Rosie from Slimming World Recipes suggests saving all the recipes you spot online and buy all the ingredients for them for your first week. You’ll have an incredible first week on plan eating all the delicious foods you fancied.
Gemma (Slimmingworldxgemx) suggests keeping a DIY recipe book that you can keep all your snippets from magazines and printed copies of recipes off the internet in. It’ll be a great source of inspiration when you’re looking for ideas of what to eat.
Allow for treats
One of the great things about the Slimming World plan is that you can have treats within your syn allowance. As Pippa mentioned earlier, planning to have one of your favourite snacks can stop you going off plan. Remember your syns are there to be used daily, so use them or lose them! Georgia from Genuinely Georgia told me she created little syn bags for the cupboard so at the end of the day she could reach in and grab a syn bag already worked out. What a brilliant idea!
Take it day by day
For most people on plan, they weigh in each week to see if they have been able to lose some weight. That’s the plan isn’t it? Shedding excess weight by not eating as much and moving more. One of the things I try and remember when I’m on plan is to take it day by day. Don’t worry about what is happening at the weekend, take it meal-by-meal, day-by-day and if you have one full day on plan, you’ll want to replicate that the next day seeing your hard work pay off on weigh day.
Check your syns and write it down
Nikki aka Fopperholic says it’s always important to check your syns before eating something and make sure you keep a record of what you’re eating. It is so easy to think that small bowl of cereal is only 35g when if you checked it’s actual weight, it could be double your allowance. It’s also really important to note down what you’re eating as it’s so easy to forget you ate that slice of bread (6 syns) with a slather of butter (3.5 syns) or that kit-kat (6.5 syns) as you were peckish earlier. It all adds up and you could be over eating.
Losing weight isn’t easy. In my own experience, I find it so much easier to gain weight than lose it. By following these Slimming World tips for getting back on track and being kinder to yourself along the way you really could make a lot of difference. Use social media to your advantage, follow people on instagram for inspiration and support. Make yourself a Pinterest board for meal planning ideas, talk to your friends and family about your reasons for wanting to lose weight and they can support you. You can do it! Good luck!
