Our Shilton Boys // October 2019

It’s our second October with our Shilton boys. Last October was very similar to this one, we’re a week away from half term and we are counting down the days to the break. It’s been a busy few weeks for us all and the boys have suffered a little with being tired and not feeling 100%. It’s the curse of being back at school though, my husband used to be ill with back to school germs in October when he was a Teacher so I guess it’s just a thing now.

Our Shilton Boys in October – Olly

The boys seem to have developed lots over the last month. Olly has adjusted going back to school fantastically and it’s a huge delight for me to see him running off to play with his friends when we get into the playground each morning. It may seem a small thing but I’ve waited a long time to see him run off and enjoy being at school in the morning with his friends.

Whilst at school, Olly’s enjoyed Science Week. They had a visit from the Space Dome which was a blow up planetarium and Olly loved seeing the stars. They each had to take in their own lab coat for investigations during the week and they all had fun with experiments, learning about the world and outer space. We even did some homework in the back garden which involved a bottle of Cola and some Mentos, which Olly really enjoyed.

Olly lost his upper front tooth this month too so he’s sporting a big gap as his new tooth grows in. It was all a bit dramatic when it came out. He got a bit upset during the morning as he couldn’t eat his breakfast and we were late for school. He managed to keep it in all day and it was still hanging in there when he got home. I encouraged him to give it a wiggle in a baby wipe and ta-da, it fell out and he didn’t even realise. The tooth fairy came and he was £3 richer, thanks to my friend and her Mum for adding to his wealth! Apparently, the tooth fairy also took his socks off during his sleep so that’s a new service she’s providing, ha!

Freddie

Freddie seems to have outgrown his biting phase for now, which is a bit of a relief. When he was frustrated or annoyed at Olly or us for not complying with his requests he would attempt to bite us. If Olly had no socks on, he’d try and bite his big brothers toe which is very brave. He seems to have calmed down a bit now Olly’s back in school and we’re occupying him more during the day.

During our usual weekday, we try and do something in the morning to get us out of the house. We’ve been going to the shops, to the park, the garden centre, a toddler group and to visit family. It’s been good to get out of the house and let him run around and let off steam. We then come home, have some lunch and then Freddie goes up into his cotbed for a nap. He’s been sleeping between 1 and 2 hours of a weekday which usually ends just as we need to get ourselves ready for the school run. So on a good day it all works well.

Our little Freddie is very vocal now, saying lots of different words. His favourite word currently is “no” which is fun. He’s started to call his big brother “Lolly” which we all love, it’s very cute! He’s also decided that mealtimes are no longer enjoyable and I’ll admit, I don’t enjoy them anymore. It’s such a battle to get him to eat much at all. I remember Olly being very similar so I’m hoping it’s a phase!
