Our Shilton Boys // January 2021

Since our last siblings update back in December, January seems to be a bit doom and gloom doesn’t it? Not that our boys would tell you otherwise, they’re loving the more relaxed way of life at home with no school run and being able to spend more time together and playing with their toys.

Freddie turned three

One of the biggest things that has happened this month is that Freddie celebrated his third birthday. It was a very quiet birthday no thanks to lockdown with doorstop visits from his Grandparents, Aunty and cousin, and also his friends. He had a lovely day despite the restrictions and seemed to love all his presents, his fabulous Superwings birthday cake and the fact we had a McDonalds lunch delivered to our door! What a treat!

We’ve also started to take potty training more seriously and now during the day Freddie will use the potty downstairs or the toilet upstairs. He has been doing brilliantly with it and has several dry days. We’ve also had some terrible days with accidents galore which have been frustrating but nevertheless he is making good progress.

First snowfall of the year

Over the new year, some of the West Midlands has some snow. We woke up to see it had snowed overnight and there was still some snow on the ground. We all went outside and the boys loved to play in it. This was Freddie’s first real snow experience as he was too little to remember it when it snowed during his first few months.

One of the evenings, the forecast was correct and it started to snow and stick. As it got heavier and the blanket of snow got deeper, we decided to ditch bedtime and go for a late night snowy walk. It was brilliant. We were the only people outside in the snow and we could make snow angels, footprints and snowballs as the snow fell around us. The boys loved it, such fun to ditch the routine and go out and play in the snow. We were so pleased we did go out and enjoy it because as we got up the next day, it had all but disappeared!

Back to remote learning

As I previously mentioned, school was closed to all but key worker and vulnerable children at the start of term and therefore Olly has been working from home on a remote learning timetable. It started off brilliantly with lots of enthusiasm for home learning. We are in a childcare bubble with the in-laws so the boys are enjoying a day or two a week at their grandparents. The boys Grandad is a retired Primary Headteacher and their Nan is a retired Primary EYFS teacher so lockdown learning has never been so much fun! I’m really grateful as it gives me time to work alone and thankfully, the boys love spending time with their Grandparents and playing with all their toys at their Grandparents house.

We’ll continue to spend as much time outside as we can when we can, we can’t go far with the restrictions but we can go outside on the scooters, walk to the park and get some fresh air!
