Our Shilton Boys Christmas Eve Box (2019)

As Christmas rolls around, the lights are twinkly and the levels of festive excitement are rising. It’s Christmas Eve and I try and inject as much magic into our festivities as possible. This includes the annual Christmas Eve box for my Shilton boys.

What are Christmas Eve boxes?

Supposedly a tradition from Germany where folk open their Christmas gifts on Christmas Eve. Not wanting to miss out on an opportunity this has become very popular in the UK.

Our annual Christmas Eve box is set up to give to our children on Christmas Eve. We give it to them in the morning and then throughout the day they can dip into the box for an activity or two to keep them entertained whilst we potter around preparing for our family Christmas. I’ve included our magic reindeer food that Freddie made at playgroup, to sprinkle on the lawn. I love to fill our box with a few treats too, after all it is Christmas.

What’s in our Christmas Eve box?

This year (2019) our Christmas Eve box consists of both practical gifts and treats; something to wear something to play with, something to read and something to eat.

First of all, I’ve included two beautiful personalised tree decorations from Fox and Weave. We have bought personalised decorations from them before and they are adorable. Priced at £6 each and available online.

Something to wear

Their festive pyjamas this year have come from Next who probably do the best pyjamas in my opinion. They feature an embroidered Santa on the front of the pyjama top and festive patterns on the trousers, they’re super snuggly.

Something to play with

By some miracle, I won a box of Christmas LEGO on Twitter earlier in the month and thought it would be a great inclusion in our box. I won the LEGO 40263 Christmas Town (ad/aff) set which is something I know that Olly will love to sit down and make.

Everyone loves a Christmas puzzle and colouring book, I am no exception. Therefore meaning that my boys also love sitting down with a puzzle book. Olly really enjoys puzzles, crosswords, dot-to-dots and wordsearches and if i keeps him busy that’s perfect! Freddie loves to colour and generally scribble on everything. I’ve included some novelty scented pencils and some colour changing pens to help colour in.

Something to eat

I spotted these Cadbury Dairy Milk Christmas Chocolate Money Boxes in the sale in our local supermarket and thought they would be great to include in the box. They both love Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate, it’s their favourite treat. The boys always get some money at Christmas from family so these will be fantastic for keeping it safe until they inevitably spend it.

Something to read

Christmas Eve bedtime will be the same as every other evening, bar the sprinkling of reindeer food and leaving out a carrot, mince pie and drink of milk for Santa. We always read a bedtime story and I picked up these two books for £7. We have Santa’s New Beard (ad/aff) by Caroline Crewe and Jess Pauwels for Olly and We’re Going On An Elf Chase by Martha Mumford and Laura Hughes. They look brilliant books and I’m sure the boys will love to read these before bed.
