Our Shilton Boys // December 2019

In just a few hours, it’ll be the Christmas holidays and we’ll be switching off the alarm clock. The Christmas break cannot come quick enough as we are all tired, worn out, low in energy and generally need to switch off and enjoy some down time. We have a family Christmas planned with visits to see Grandparents, Aunty’s and Uncles and cousins as well as seeing friends for drinks and playdates but before we switch off, I wanted to write about how the last few weeks have been for my two Shilton boys as they make my heart swell and the smile across my face beam. 

Olly: Progress

Since September Olly has been settled into school really well. Gone are the days when he gets upset in the morning, he no longer cries himself into making himself sick on the playground. All of a sudden he seems much more mature and he’s happy to go into school. It has been a long time coming. Some people said it would happen but when you’re in the throws of daily battles to get upset children into school, you never quite believe them. Thankfully he’s taken a massive step forward this year and it’s doing him the world of good.

The Christmas Carol Concert

In previous years, I have always dreaded the school carol concert or nativity performance. Olly has never wanted to join in or wear the costumes, never wanted anyone to look at him on stage and didn’t want any attention at all. To my amazement this year, Olly had a speaking part in the Key Stage One carol concert and he was excited about it. He had 3 lines which he recited well so that on the day of the performance he could read them without a prompt in front of all the parents and teachers. He was brilliant and spoke his words really clearly and well, and with a big grin on his face. I was so proud of him. He’s come on such a long way over the last year and that performance was a fantastic way to round off the year.

Freddie

Our cheeky little boy is nearly two. How can that be? In just under 3 weeks, he’ll be turning two years old and we’ll be celebrating his little life with family and friends. This is Freddie’s second Christmas and whilst he doesn’t really understand the fuss, he loves the lights and decorations.

Unfortunately, he doesn’t like Father Christmas and because of this, we’ve shyed away from a full on Christmas calendar and had a bit more relaxed approach to it. Freddie met Father Christmas at Cannock Chase at the beginning of the month but got upset and didn’t want to talk to him. Similarly again at Legoland Discovery Centre Birmingham, he refused to meet him and wouldn’t even look at him. He’s still so young though so I’m sure there’s plenty of time for him to understand and learn who Father Christmas is. At the moment he’s a scary looking man in a red suit with lots of facial hair!

I cannot wait to see what the new year holds for my two Shilton boys but first, we’re looking forward to a lovely Christmas together; eating chocolate, playing with cardboard boxes, Playmobil and LEGO!
