Your home is your largest asset, and paying for it is likely to be your most significant expenditure each month. Paying for a mortgage and your home’s running costs can take up a substantial portion of your income. But, what if there was a way that you could use your home to make you some extra money? Thinking creatively and maximising the potential of your home could help you to make money from your property, and the good news is that there are lots of ways that you can do this.

Check out these ideas to help inspire your home’s money-making potential:

Share Your Passion

Do you have a passion for all things home-related? Whether you love interior design or cleaning is your thing, you could make money from sharing your passion with the world. Starting a blog or Instagram account dedicated to your passion could help you make money from sharing your tips with the world. After all, this method seems to be working out pretty well for Mrs Hinch.

The pursuit of a perfect home is something that many people are interested in, so there is a ready-made audience out there that loves content related to interior design, cleaning, making home crafts, and more.

Downsize

Throughout life, the way that we use our homes changes. Before having kids, your home may have been a perfect example of minimalism that wouldn’t look out of place in a trendy interior design magazine. Fast forward to life with a couple of kids, and that same home could be bursting at the seams with child-related paraphernalia. But as the kids grow up, you may find that you no longer need the space that was once so crammed with stuff.

You may have rooms that you very rarely use anymore, and you could be paying for a large house that you no longer need. If this is the case, you may decide that the time is right to downsize. You will find that the benefits of downsizing your home are plentiful, and you may even wonder why you had not downsized your home sooner. Downsizing enables you to use the equity that you have built up over the years and make use of it rather than having it tied up in your home.

Rent Some Space

If you don’t feel ready to downsize, but you do have some extra space, you could choose to make money from this. Renting out a room for students in the country studying from abroad is one possibility to consider, or if you want a longer-term option, you may decide to get a lodger.

Alternatively, if you have a garage or parking space that you don’t use, you may be able to make money from these. Renting out a parking space or garage can be especially lucrative if you live near a town centre or in a city where parking is at a premium. Just be sure to draw up an agreement to prevent complications in the future.
