With the schools in England now back open to all children, we are slowly getting back into the routine of making packed lunches and doing the school run. Who knew I’d be so eager to make a packed lunch again. Jack’s recently launched a ‘Homeschool fuel inspiration’ meal plan where you could pick up breakfast, snacks and lunch items for one child for 5 days for under £15. We thought this was brilliant value so this weekend, whilst getting our weekly shop at Jack’s Supermarket, we decided to pick up a weeks worth of back to school products for Olly’s breakfast, snacks and lunch.

We had heard great things about Jack’s Supermarket. There’s a huge range of great quality products all at outstanding value. We always pick up supermarket own-brand products where we can, mainly to help the budget stretch that little bit further and secondly, in my opinion, the food tastes just as good as other branded products. The range at Jack’s is brilliant so there was lots of choice and nothing we couldn’t pick up.

Breakfast

For breakfast, we picked up some of Jack’s own branded ‘Pain au chocolat’ as the boys love these. We also picked up the boys favourite fruit which were apples and sweet easy peelers and some pouches of Fromage Frais. Olly sometimes has a couple of slices of toast as well, I don’t know where he puts it!

Lunch

Our eldest son Olly has been taking packed lunches in to school this year and upon the return to school, loves taking his lunchbox full of his favourite foods. We would love to vary his lunch but know it would’t go down well so we stick to his favourite foods as we know he will eat them all.

For lunch, we picked up some bagels which Olly enjoys with cooked chicken and cucumber. It’s worth mentioning that 100% of Jack’s fresh chicken, beef and lamb is British as is 100% of their fresh milk. It’s good to know where it’s come from. In addition to his bagel, Olly would usually have a couple of cocktail sausages, some batons of cucumber or bell pepper with a dip, a packet of crisps, a yoghurt pouch (if he didn’t eat it at breakfast) and a chocolate biscuit bar. He was delighted to have found his favourite Rocky bars in store, so we had to get some of those too!

Snacks

Like many children during lockdown, my boys have become accustomed to eating all the snacks. Even now Olly is back at school, he likes to take a couple of snacks to eat at break time in the morning and in the afternoon so we picked up chocolate rice cakes, hot cross buns and chocolate mini rolls so there’s a small selection of snacks he can enjoy.

Great value

We managed to pick up all of Olly’s favourite snacks and items for his breakfasts and lunches plus a loaf of Warburtons bread (as they also stock Britain’s favourite brands at brilliant prices too!) and a few other little treats all for just under £15. We were really impressed. We were surprised just how far our budget could go.
