Me and Mine Project // May 2020

Another month in lockdown and I think me and mine have adjusted quite well. Every day I attempt to homeschool Olly and try and keep him busy. Shilts has been working in the home office throughout the week and Freddie has been loving the extra attention from his brother and his Daddy during the day. We’ve adapted our daily routine and we’re mostly staying home and keeping our distance.

M U M M Y

• I enjoyed celebrating VE Day. We decorated the front of the house with bunting, flags and posters. We sat on chairs at the front of our house listening to our neighbours music.
• I have enjoyed watching the NASA SpaceX Dragon launch on 30th May. The rocket took two American astronauts up into Space to rendezvous with the International Space Station 19 hours later!
• loved the Moonpig Virtual Bloggers Event which had a cocktail masterclass and flower arranging session.
• I loved seeing my nephew (from a distance) as it was his birthday earlier in the month. We drove over with essentials and birthday goodies for the birthday boy and had distanced hugs from afar.
• I have enjoyed making cookies and bread with the boys in the kitchen.
• is loving the sunshine and spending time in the garden with the boys.
• loves looking back at the Me and Mine project photographs from over the last couple of years, I love to see the boys grow!

D A D D Y

• has enjoyed being able to enjoy the sunny weather in the back garden
• has loved being able to eat his lunch in the garden and see the boys more during the day
• has completed a 7.5 mile charity walk around our home town with Olly on VE Day for their Race The Distance NHS achievement medal.
• has been baking scones for the parents and made them a socially distanced Sunday afternoon cream tea.
• has been working hard in the evenings on a new secret project – all to be revealed soon!

O L L Y

• has enjoyed being in the garden, playing on his scooter and jumping in the paddling pool.
• has loved watching out for the International Space Station and Starlink late in the evening in the back garden (we haven’t see Starlink yet though!)
• has loved spotting the planet Venus in the night sky
• had a question answered by NASA Astronaut Tony Antonelli live on YouTube which was pretty awesome
• has achieved his Race The Distance NHS medal for scooting 7.5 mile (12km) around the outskirts of our home town.
• has had a COVID haircut much to his annoyance!
• has loved playing in his Nan and Grandad’s back garden as they look on in their house (maintaining social distancing as always).
• started tutor lessons as part of a blog collaboration, he’s enjoying it so much we are extending the tutor sessions in to the summer whilst he’s still off school.

F R E D D I E

• has loved having his older brother and Daddy home more during the day
• was an angel as Mummy shaved his head (it was getting wild!)
• has enjoyed eating lots of fruit and drinking Daddy’s homemade smoothies
• loves jumping in the paddling pool with Olly
• loves talking to family on FaceTime. He loves speaking to Nanny and Grandad, mainly hogging the screen and talking about everything and anything
• is missing his friends and family. We cannot wait (but we will) until the day we can hug our families again.

No school for Olly just yet

We are not planning to send Olly back to school before the end of term, we haven’t heard from his Primary School as to when he would be invited back but we have made a decision not to send him back until at least September. We are in a very lucky and privileged position that I can work from home around the boys so there is no rush from us to send him back. Here in the West Midlands, our virus transmission rate (and local death toll) is much higher here and from what we have seen locally, we don’t want to put Olly into the school to mix with children who haven’t been socially distancing over the last few months. I do feel for those who are in different positions and have no choice but to send their children to school.

Onward to a new normal

June will see me and mine venturing outside a bit more. We don’t intend on going very far perhaps to the local woods or country park when it is safe to do so. We are looking forward to seeing family and friends from a distance in their gardens. Our holiday to the south of the France has been cancelled which is upsetting but at least we can look forward to it next year when hopefully it will be safe to fly and travel more.
