After the last few months of lockdown, any time spent outside feels like a welcome relief. It’s easy to get frustrated when you spend most of your life looking at the same walls! As the lockdown loosens, many of us are now thinking about how we can make the most of what we’ve got, whether that’s spending more quality time with the people we love or simply exploring our local area.

While the last few months have allowed us to get creative with how we spend our time outdoors, we must show our homes some love, too! Our humble abodes have become busy spaces this year and giving them a new look could be the perfect way to usher in new beginnings.

If you’re considering treating your home to some much-deserved TLC over the next few weeks, take a look at these inspirational ideas.

Clean and Declutter

From working in the kitchen to exercises in the living room, you’d be forgiven if your house has become slightly less organised over the last few months! Before trying anything too big, it can help to make the most of what you have, and that starts with cleaning your space. Get your cleaning equipment at the ready (you can find all your protective cleaning gloves from unigloves) and spend some time getting the space clean, tidy and decluttered.

The old saying goes that everything should have a home, and adding this sense of organisation back into our home lives is vital. Keep the kid’s toys as neatly organised as possible, while also making sure that your workspace isn’t overflowing into other areas of the home. Simply making everything presentable once again can help when bringing positivity into a space.

Get Painting!

A quick way to introduce more positivity and excitement into a room is to give it a fresh coat of paint. The colour of your walls can actually have an impact on how we feel, so picking an appropriate colour is essential. White is popular because it helps us feel calm, while it also attracts light and can make rooms feel bigger.

If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, you can consider adding a totally new colour into your home! A soft blue for the kid’s bedroom is a classic choice, while deep and dark reds or greys can add a touch of luxury to spaces such as the dining room.

Recycling and Upcycling

Lockdown has reminded us to be appreciative of what we have closest to us. With this spirit in mind, while buying loads of new accessories for the home would be nice, why not take a moment to see if you can make more of what you have?

When we think of recycling, we sometimes imagine making tables out of toilet roll or chairs from cereal boxes. What it really means is simply making the most of what we have. Instead of buying a new photo frame, why not paint one that you had fallen out of love with? Little touches like that can go a long way and create a more personal feel for your home.

Try Something New

Many of us are looking forward to pursuing new activities once lockdown has ended. If you really want to push the boat out with your home, why not redesign a room from scratch in a totally unique style?

Take inspiration from rooms you’ve seen in books and on TV and reimagine your space from scratch. You could opt for a more rustic style, with old wooden furnishings and light accessories. Alternatively, you can try a metallic, industrial style, with industrial-style lights and other dramatic fixtures. The world is your oyster when it comes to designing your home!

Treat Your Garden

We have been fortunate enough to enjoy our outdoor space over the last few months and have made the most of the good weather! If you’re looking to improve your home, remember to treat your garden to some extra love, too!

It may seem strange at first, what’s been mentioned above can also apply to your outside space. For starters, some simple garden maintenance can make your outdoor space feel even more welcoming. Give gates or fences a fresh coat of paint or introduce some simple furnishings to create a more exciting and homely environment.

Hopefully, these ideas will help to inspire you when it comes to decorating your home! Like a lot of people, given the last few months, we’re excited to see what the future holds for our little slice of earth.
