The time always inevitably comes when your home starts to feel a bit tired. A bit dated. Not what you really want to be living it. It’s not truly awful, but it is just not quite right for you in your current stage of life. When this time comes, you will probably start to think about what you can do to bring it up to date and give it a fresh start.
The good news is, you can absolutely do this without spending tens of thousands of pounds or undergoing a whole renovation to refresh your space. That being the case, let’s take a look at what you can do to give your home a fresh start right now.
Start with a proper clear out
Before you add anything new to your space, it is a good idea to first clear out anything that needs to go. Open cupboards, empty drawers, and check the loft or garage. Anything you find that you do not need or you do not really love, you should chuck.
It’s amazing exactly how much lighter a home can feel once all of the clutter is removed from the space. Oh, and if you are tackling a larger clear out, especially after many years of accumulation, you may find yourself asking, what skip size do I need? Choosing the right size skip depends on how much you are getting rid of, but having one in place can make the process far more efficient. The key is not to shuffle items from one corner to another. If it no longer serves a purpose, let it go.
Refresh your walls
Once you have gotten rid of all the clutter, you will start to notice that the condition of your walls is maybe not as good as it could be. A fresh coat of paint is thankfully all you need to change that and transform the room at very little expense.
Neutral tones are always a safe option if you want a calm, clean look. Alternatively, adding one feature wall in a richer shade can create depth without overwhelming the space. Either way, new paint instantly makes a home feel cleaner and more cared for. It’s a relatively simple job, but its impact can really be huge.
Update soft furnishings
If your furniture is still in good shape, you should consider updating the surrounding details instead. New cushions, throws, rugs and curtains can really change the mood of the space and make it feel more modern or whatever style you want it to be.
You can layer different textures to add warmth and style detail to the decor, too. Soft fabrics combined with natural materials like wood or woven baskets can create a welcoming atmosphere without major expense. Small swaps really do make a big difference.
Create clear zones
Creating different zones for different life activities can really refresh the space. A reading corner. A workspace. A defined dining area. Whatever works for you. The fact that each zone has a purpose will make our home seem more organised sand mch eaiee to live in. Time to give your home a fresh start?
