2020, the year of the lockdown. The year we had to stay at home and spent more time at home than we probably ever have. Whilst most of us parents were juggling home schooling, working from home and everyday lockdown life, we had to deal with our homes being turned upside down and little versions of ourselves attempting to rule the roost. Many aspects of home life fell by the wayside with the chaos of 2020 so here are three things to stay on top of in the new year.
Life admin
It’s a phrase I’ve used for years, life admin refers to all the paperwork you have to deal with as an adult. There’s bills, insurances, household finances as well as all the other important appointments you have to remember. It’s fair to say that in 2020, when the paperwork landed on the doorstep that I left most of it in the envelopes. The direct debits came out and bills were paid but I didn’t pay much attention to the smaller stuff like interest rates and renewal dates. I’ll definitely be paying more attention to those next year.
Toys get everywhere

With a toddler running around the house and into everything, toys found themselves in all matter of places. We had crayons in the bathroom, jigsaw pieces in the living room and bath toys in the bedroom. They weren’t were they were supposed to be and although we have since tidied up, nothing is in order and needs organising properly. As with most toys, tastes change and things that were popular a couple of weeks ago aren’t the flavour of the month. To keep on top of the toys and the children’s toys we’re probably going to store them in a self storage unit, such as Magenta self storage, and rotate them on a monthly basis. This will keep the boys entertained with their favourite toys they had forgotten about every month and we get our living room back.
Food planning
Food planning used to be one of the things we were hot on doing every Sunday. Then with lockdown we tried to not visit the supermarket every week and our food planning got a bit more sporadic. I do miss food planning as it definitely helps inspire you for meals at teatime rather than having the same meals each week. Food planning also helps the piggy bank as it stops you relying on takeaway and fast food as an option for dinner when you discover you don’t have much in the fridge.
What will you be staying on top of in the new year? Will you be tackling the paperwork too?
