My family love being outside. It’s the freedom of having an open wide space to run around in and explore that we love the most. We love to hop into the car and drive locally to parks, country parks and forests to pop on our wellies and have adventures. It’s so important that children get to spend time outside, learning about the world around them and taking in new experiences, sights and sounds. However, it’s not always easy to pull them away from their screens and the pulls of modern technology. Here’s 3 ways to spend more time outdoors with children.

Explore your local forest

We love visiting our local forest and wooded areas. There’s so much to explore. We usually end up at our favourite forest, Cannock Chase but we’ve enjoy the Wyre Forest too. One of the best things to do at Cannock Chase is to take the Gruffalo Trail around the forest. There’s a route mapped out and you can explore with the children hunting down their favourite characters from the book. It’s a great activity to do and you’ll get lots of fresh air and steps in too!

Take your children horse riding

Horse riding is something I tried as a youngster and enjoyed but didn’t want to commit to regularly. Many of my friends had horses and their commitment to their horses was incredible. Learning to ride a horse is a brilliant way of getting your children outdoors on a regular basis and is a great way of introducing them to large animals and building a bond. Riding stables are very popular and it’s easy to see why many people love to spend time with their horses and make sure their stables, such valestables.com are warm and cosy. If you’re thinking of starting riding lessons, always ask for local recommendations and consider the kit you might need to buy if your children enjoy it.

Learn to sail

They say you should give your children the experiences you never got to do yourself and learning to sail is one of them. Being on the water is most definitely an experience but it’s an enjoyable one too. There is so much to learn about sailing a boat from steering a boat, learning how to use and read the sails, learning essential rope work and ensuring full safety on board. There’s a lot to learn but offers a sense of adventure, fun and freedom to enjoy the wonders outdoors. Find your local yachting club to learn more about what it takes to master the sails on water.
