Having spent far too many days throughout lockdown cooped up in the house, we have agreed to make some changes to our home. I don’t know whether it’s because we’ve decided certain things don’t work for us anymore or that our tastes have changed but we now want to change a couple of rooms and our hallway. Our hallway is long and thin, a space to hang your coat and kick off your shoes but it’s also a place that makes the first impression to our visitors. We want to make the most of the light and that’s why it needs a makeover.

Hallway makeover

Why we need a hallway makeover?

Earlier this year, we finally got a new front door. It instantly changed the look of the hallway bringing in lots of light. Unfortunately for us, it showed up the damage our floor sustained from years of frequent rainwater seeping into the house via the old door. We’re looking for new flooring and really like the hardwood floor options as this has longevity, is super practical and looks pretty stylish too! The hallway is a high traffic zone so we would need to install something that would not only look great use after use, but would withstand being walked all over by lots of different people over the years.

To make the most of the space in our hallway, we want to install a shoe cabinet to hide away the abundance of shoes we seem to accumulate. We saw the Ikea Hemnes shoe cabinet in store recently and think it would be a great addition to the space. We also hang our coats up in the hallway and we’d like to continue doing this as it’s practical with the children and our lack of storage elsewhere.

Finishing touches

As finishing touches to the hallway, I’d love the black Brunsta industrial look lampshades from Ikea, leather strap mirrors to bounce the light off the walls and some greenery to help breathe some life into the room and add a pop of colour. We would complete the hallway with a door mat and the room would be done.
