In just a couple of months Freddie will be 6 months old and our weaning journey will be about to begin. It’s been a long time since I weaned his older brother and of course, I’ve forgotten pretty much everything. Thankfully, this week 7th-13th May, is National Weaning Week so it’s the perfect opportunity to look ahead at products that are designed to help us parents through the mud of weaning and there’s also the opportunity for you to win a weaning bundle worth over £80.

Introducing babies to food can be very stressful. Do you try baby led weaning or perhaps spoon feeding and purees are more your bag? It can also be quite messy as babies learn about food and you introduce them to new tastes, flavours and textures. Whichever method you try, there’s a range of brilliant products to help out. Say hello to stress-free weaning and goodbye to stained clothes, endless washing and constant cleaning!

The fully waterproof, coverall bib is made from a beautifully soft machine-washable fabric and is designed with an adjustable neck fastening to allow for a snug and comfortable fit for babies aged 6 months to 2 years.

The tray is made from food-safe material and is easy to wipe-clean. The fresh green colour provides an essential contrast between baby’s food and their eating surface, supporting vital hand-eye coordination. The Tidy Tot Bib & Tray also comes with a stylish travel bag and folds down to a dinner plate size, making it fully portable for meals out and on the go!

Baby Cup

When it comes to the drinking side of weaning, there are a multitude of reasons why open-cup sipping is the healthiest option, and oral health is right at the top of the list.

One of the areas that can play a part in good oral health from the start is not just what children eat and drink but how they eat and drink. And when it comes to choosing a cup, dentists and orthodontists recommend for good oral health babies and young children should use open cups from an early an age as possible.

Leading dentists and orthodontists say the best sippy cup is a cup that truly teaches sipping. And that’s not a sippy cup at all! The best cup for babies and toddlers is an open cup. And key for great success for weaning babies and toddlers – the cup needs to be the right size for the user!  So Babycup was born. We made these cute little cups that look good and do good. Perfectly designed for little hands and mouths and with the thumbs up from health visitors, dental professionals and midwives. Making mealtime sipping the happy norm, Babycup First Cups are the mini open cup solution for babies and toddlers.

  3. My top tip is persevere with things they refuse at first, keep going back and trying again the following week. This helps to prevent fussy eating habits.

  4. Both – freedom to explore and enjoy food rather than making it a chore

  5. Encourage your baby to have fun and play with food, experiment with mashing, squashing, licking and squeezing. These activities will encourage your baby to taste and enjoy their food and learn new flavours. I used both baby led weaning and pureed foods.

  6. It won’t be long before we will be weaning Henry! The plan is to do baby led weaning, so my top tip for that is to relax and have fun with it – don’t stress if it seems like they’re not eating very much, as it’s all about learning and exploring in the beginning.

  7. To keep trying new flavours and textures and to persevere and be patient as little ones may not like something several times and eventually end up loving it!

  20. We used both with our eldest and will no doubt do the same in a few months with our youngest.

  21. I’ve recently started weaning I’m doing purees and finger food. My tip from weaning my eldest is hold off with the sweet food my son doesn’t have a massive sweet tooth and I definately think it’s to do with this

  22. Both seem to provide variety, and some foodstuffs may help little one in regards to teething. I think it is important to allow little ones to experiment (try out new foods) whilst ensuring they are safe. As they are experimenting it may take time for them to become totally comfortable with a new taste, texture, etc.

  23. I would be starting combo weaning soon and slowly introduce variety of pureed fruit and vegetables. I hope my little one would enjoy food and we can progress to mashed food. I am planing to prepare in advance and freeze.

  24. I used both shop-bought and homemade pureed food. It was fascinating watching her face as she experienced new flavours and textures. She let us know that she didn’t like anything fish flavoured!

  25. I made Annabel Karmel purees by the book for my son, but baby-led with my daughter as it was easier if she just ate what her brother did.

  30. we did both. we knew when it was time because he was always hungry

  31. I always fed my babies pureed foods like baby rice mixed with formula! Usually topped up with a 6 oz bottle of formula milk and then introduced lumpier foods around 9 months! Lots of fun with the finger foods too!

  32. It was pureed food when I weaned my children but I think baby led weaning is great, my granddaughter was weaned that way and is much better at trying new foods than her mummy ever was

  33. Always gave my kids everything to taste, pureed and shop bought

  34. i pureed up food but found the puddings that were pre made were very tasty

  35. We did both, they’d have finger foods such as boiled veg and fruits and we’d also do dinners blended and sit them in the high chair with us at meal time.

  36. I always tried and tasted the food what I offered – so my daughter had seen that I am eating the same food

  37. I made most of my babies puréed food and started when they were hungry and not at six months of age. They have grown up with no problems or allergies
