Me and Mine Project // July 2020

A little later than expected but nevertheless, we’ve had a very busy July! Our July has been full of exploring out and about in our local area using our National Trust passes, going to see family and friends and redecorating in a nutshell.

July saw the end of the current school term. Olly finished his online tutor sessions and we handed in his completed schoolwork books. I think I was more pleased to see the back of them than Olly was! He had a half afternoon transition session in school which he loved. He was only in a small group of 5 but he had a brilliant time and said he enjoyed it. We have a date for his return to school in Year 3 in September so fingers crossed he can go back to school as planned.

We had various days out during the weekends in July to make the most of time outside the house. We went to Cotswold Lavender, National Trust Wightwick Manor, National Trust Shugborough Hall, National Trust Packwood House and Cosford Air Museum. We’ve spent time with our families which has been wonderful and much needed for everyone.

The big project in July was the room switch. We swapped bedrooms with the boys and now the boys have a blue and white space themed bedroom and we have a navy blue, blush pink and grey bedroom. It has been a lot of work over the last 7 days of July but now it’s all come together, we are so pleased with how the rooms look. Watch out for a blog post to follow with all the details.

What we enjoyed in July 2020

M U M M Y

• has loved the warm weather and the chance to get outside more
• is loving her Happy Planner
• recorded a Podcast for her friend Fi of The Regular Parent – coming soon!
• has loved but equally hated the room swap redecoration project, we have worked so damn hard on it.
• especially loved visiting Shugborough as it reminded me of all the happy times I visited as a child.
• had a fantastic afternoon with her friend Helen and her family and friends for a Zoom Virtual Baby Shower.

D A D D Y

• has enjoyed seeing the fruits of his hard graft pay off whilst he decorates on annual leave.
• loved taking the boys to Birmingham Airport to spot planes. Sadly there were only a few landing and taking off given the climate but they still all enjoyed it.
• enjoyed a post-lockdown carvery in Bridgnorth followed by strawberry picking.
• loved visiting Shugborough as it was a new place for him to explore.

O L L Y

• has loved finishing school and is enjoying the holidays
• took part in a Virtual Mascot Summit for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022. He had great fun helping the team behind the games come up with some mascot ideas.
• loved exploring the fields at Packwood House.
• has loved seeing everyone at school for his transition session and is secretly looking forward to Year 3.

F R E D D I E

• has loved seeing his friend Freddie again. He has missed him dearly and loved playing with him for the afternoon.
• has moved from his cotbed to his big single bed. He has done brilliantly so far. He has fallen out twice (we have since bought another bed guard so there is no escape) so fingers crossed he is settling in well.
• cannot believe all the new-to-him toys that his big brother had stashed under his bed. Since we have sold Olly’s mid-sleeper, all the toys that were hidden under there are now freely available for Freddie play with. He is in toy heaven!

As we look ahead into August, we’re going to enjoy some time with family. I’m hoping we can get out to some more local National Trust properties and enjoy some more of the beautiful weather. We hope to visit the seaside for a day or two so I’m very much looking forward to that.
