Living in the Midlands, we don’t get much chance to see the sea and play on the beach so when my husband booked us a little break away to Wales during half term, I was delighted we could go and spend some time at the coast and take along my DSLR to get some practice in behind the lens.
Being February half term the weather was never going to be warm and sunny but on Thursday morning we woke to a cold but dry morning. After we had eaten some yummy hotel breakfast, we walked around the lake next to our hotel and went to see the sea. The beach at Llanelli is really beautiful. It’s really sandy and very clean so whilst the tide was out we were able to explore the beach, hunt out pebbles and shells and to Little Mr’s delight, watch the diggers move enormous boulders as they work on protecting the coastline.

We spent the morning walking along the coastal path, exploring the beach and taking in the fresh sea air. Little Mr loved being able to roam free on the beach without us nagging at him to stay close and within reach. It’s funny watching him from a distance as he always looks back to see if we’re watching him.
The beach was pretty much deserted aside from a few runners and dog walkers. I bet in the sunshine the beach is a very popular spot even if the tide is out.
We loved looking for stones and pieces of wood to use as pencils to draw in the sand. Little Mr enjoyed watching my husband draw our names in the sand and then tried to copy him. So lovely to watch him learn and try new things for himself.
On our last day we drove east along the coast to visit some more of the beaches we had heard so much about. We stopped off at Porthcawl and ate our lunch and then drove around to the beach at Trecco Bay to spend an hour exploring and getting sand blasted on the beach in the wind.
We all had a lovely few days by the sea and can’t wait until we next get some time off to go and go off exploring. Maybe next time we’ll get a chance to paddle in the sea.
