Halloween is coming and I’ve made these Halloween Oreo Bat Cupcakes for the spooky tea party we’ll be having on 31st October. They’re really quick and easy to make and the kids love them! I’ve used some black food colouring to turn the sponge cake black and have used ready made candy eyeballs to add to the dramatic effect. Aren’t they brilliant?

Everyone loves a cupcake and biscuits right? So I’ve combined the two and made these cute Halloween Oreo Bat Cupcakes. They’re not an original idea, I’m pretty sure these have been around for decades but they’re fun, simple and relatively quick to make and they’re a great activity for the kids!

Ingredients

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 170C / Gas Mark 3.
  2. Put the butter and sugar into a food mixer and mix together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the vanilla essence and eggs. Mix together to make a creamy cake batter.
  4. Add the flour and mix for approximately 4-5 minutes until smooth. Don’t forget to scrape down the sides of the food mixer bowl to ensure all the ingredients mix well together.
  5. Add in a squirt of food colouring and mix well.
  6. Pour into fairy or cupcake cases.
  7. Bake for about 12-15 minutes but do keep an eye on them to make sure they don’t burn.
  8. Leave to cool on a cooling rack
  9. Meanwhile, using icing or edible bakers glue, stick on two eyes to a whole Oreo biscuit to form the face
  10. Gently pull apart an Oreo and chop in half to form the bat wings
  11. Colour the frosting if desired, I have used orange and green food colouring
  12. Using buttercream or frosting, swirl it on top of the cooled cupcake
  13. Place the face on first then firmly add the wings behind the face
  14. Ta, da! Your Halloween Oreo bat cupcake is complete!
