New Year is often all about cultivating new habits, creating resolutions, and working to be the best version of yourself. Improving wellbeing often features as one of the top priorities but it can be challenging to know where to begin.

Wellbeing can mean many things to different people but there are some simple ways you can incorporate new, healthy habits into your daily routine this January. If you’re struggling to get motivated, consider starting with one of these easy habits and work your way through them during the month.

Mindful mornings

Setting a little time aside in the mornings to take some deep breaths can help you focus on the day ahead and increase your productivity. Make this a part of your morning routine alongside a hot cup of your favourite tea.  Matcha tea is a great alternative to regular tea or coffee, providing a little pick-me-up while also calming the mind. It’s also known for aiding concentration, which might make your working day a little easier to manage.

Get plenty of sleep

Sleep is essential for optimum physical and mental health, with most adults needing between seven and nine hours of good quality slumber. There are many reasons why you might not be able to get the right amount of sleep so it’s a good idea to address any underlying issues to increase your sleep quality.

If you’re struggling to fall asleep at night, try and develop a bedtime routine that focuses on winding down and relaxation. Have a hot bath, read a good book, or try meditation.

Digital Detox

As well as promoting good sleep, establishing boundaries with your screen time can lead to a whole host of benefits. Spend quality time with loved ones instead, cook a nice meal, or do something creative. You might find you feel less stressed, less distracted and more able to manage everyday challenges.

Find joy in physical activity

You don’t need to go to the gym to partake in exercise. Find an activity you enjoy and that doesn’t feel like a chore. Ideas include taking a walk outside in the fresh air, doing some gentle yoga, enjoying a family bike ride or even taking part in some winter gardening.

Fuel your body

Eating a balanced diet and getting plenty of nutrients will improve your overall well-being. Make sure to eat a range of fruits and vegetables and keep yourself hydrated with water throughout the day. Make mealtimes more interesting by trying out new recipes and plan ahead by batch cooking at the weekends.

Finally, when adopting any of these habits, it’s important to enjoy yourself. Choose what makes you feel good, and you’ll be more likely to stick to your new routine.
