After planning out our bucket list of family-friendly hikes in England, it only felt right to look across the border and start mapping out some adventures in beautiful Wales. With its lush valleys, dramatic coastlines, and storybook mountains, Wales offers some truly magical walking spots that are perfect for families. Whether you’re a local family or just visiting on holiday, these five hikes are full of views, fresh air, and plenty of fun for little explorers. 1. Bwlch Nant yr Arian, Ceredigion

Distance: Multiple trails ranging from 1 to 3 miles (1.6 to 4.8 km)
Difficulty: Easy to moderate

Bwlch Nant yr Arian is a forested area that’s made for family adventures. What really sets it apart is the red kite feeding station—watching dozens of these beautiful birds swoop through the air is a real wow moment for kids and adults alike. There are several easy circular trails, including an all-ability route around the lake with pushchair access. With woodland play areas, picnic spots, and even a café for post-walk treats, it’s an ideal day out for the whole family.

2. Pen y Fan (via the Storey Arms), Brecon Beacons

Distance: ~4 miles (6.4 km) round trip
Difficulty: Moderate

Pen y Fan is the highest peak in southern Britain and a big tick on any Welsh walking bucket list. The route from the Storey Arms is the most popular and family-friendly option. It’s a steady climb with plenty of places to stop and catch your breath (or admire the views!). This one’s best for slightly older kids who are up for a challenge, and reaching the summit is such a rewarding moment. On a clear day, the views from the top are unforgettable.

3. Elidir Trail, Devil’s Bridge, Ceredigion

Distance: ~2 miles (3.2 km)
Difficulty: Easy to moderate

This scenic woodland trail is full of folklore and natural beauty. Starting from the famous Devil’s Bridge, the Elidir Trail takes you through a lush gorge, over little wooden bridges, and past cascading waterfalls. The path has steps and some uneven sections, so it’s better suited to confident walkers, but it’s a real adventure. The boys are especially intrigued by the legends behind the Devil’s Bridge itself—perfect for sparking imaginations and a bit of storytelling along the way.

4. Coastal Path from Langland Bay to Caswell Bay, Swansea

Distance: ~1.5 miles (2.4 km) one way
Difficulty: Easy

This short section of the Wales Coast Path is a gem for families. It follows a well-maintained and mostly flat path with gorgeous views of the sea, rock pools, and sandy beaches. Langland and Caswell Bays are both Blue Flag beaches with cafés and toilets, making it a super family-friendly choice. The boys will love beachcombing, rock-hopping, and having an ice cream while watching surfers in the waves. Great for a half-day out with a splash at the beach to finish.

5. Llyn Padarn Circular Walk, Snowdonia

Distance: ~3.5 miles (5.6 km)
Difficulty: Easy to moderate

Set beneath the majestic mountains of Snowdonia, this lakeside walk is a peaceful, scenic loop around Llyn Padarn near Llanberis. It combines lake views, forest paths, and a peek into Welsh heritage with old quarry buildings and even the National Slate Museum nearby. The walk is mostly flat and well-signposted, with the bonus of a little train line running through the area that younger kids will love spotting. It’s one of those places where you could easily spend the whole day.
