If your house is struggling to contain your growing family, then you might be eyeing your loft as the ideal space to convert into a family room. A family room needs to provide something for the whole family, providing entertainment for parents and kids alike. It also needs to be hard-wearing so it will stand up to family life. Here are some ideas to turn your loft space into another family space.

loft room

Make a snack eating station

If you have the loft is big enough, you can put in a small dining table in the room for eating snacks and casual meals. If you can’t squeeze in a proper table, then you can use the coffee table as a snacking table. Keep some floor cushions or small stools tucked under the coffee table so they can be pulled out and used for the kids to sit on at the coffee table to eat. If the kids can sit up to eat, there’ll be fewer crumbs on the sofa.

Add lots of rugs and throws

A loft space can easily be made very cosy by adding in lots of throws to add soft textures. Put a rug in front of the TV as somewhere for the kids to lounge, while also adding some colour and warmth. Put lots of blankets on the sofa and chairs for wrapping up for movie nights.

Add A Bathroom

The disadvantage of a family room in the loft is that it can be a long way for young children to go back downstairs to the bathroom. If you have enough space, a small half-bath could be a great addition. Just make sure you have the plumbing for it. Using the right water pump is essential.

Find the right seating options

A large sectional sofa is a great pick for a large family, as there’s plenty of room for everyone to sit. If you can’t get a sofa like this up the loft stairs, you could use a mix of different smaller seating. A small sofa, a set of armchairs, and some fun options like beanbags are good options and add something for kids and parents.

Get creative with colour

The family room is a perfect room to decorate with different colours than you might choose for the rest of the house. Use some pops of bright colour with throw cushions, blankets, and ornaments. You could also use LED light strips in pretty colours around beams or other interesting architecture of loft attic conversion. This will show off the conversion at its best while adding in some more colour.

Add in storage

The family room is used for all kinds of different kinds of family activities, from watching movies to playing board games. Add in plenty of storage for all the things that these activities need. Turn the awkward spaces that loft conversions often create into shelving or cupboards. Choose furniture with storage space built-in. You can use this space to store games, craft supplies, DVDs, and CDs.
