Having children is never easy and there will be days when you have wondered how you will cope and get through the day. Just know, that it may not be just you that is struggling and having a hard day. Children will only usually play up if they don’t know how to deal with a certain emotion. When it comes to your teenagers, they also have to contend with the flurry of hormones coursing through their bodies. If your teen is struggling with certain aspects of their life, education for instance then there are things you can do to help.

Don’t Pressure Them

One of the most important aspects of having a child, especially a teenager is to not pressure them. They are already putting enough pressure on themselves, they don’t need yours as well. What they need from you is reassurance and support that they can make it through this difficult time and transition. They may be panicking that they won’t make it through their GCSEs, this can be tough especially if they are relying on the grades. Keep calm and give them the best advice you can give them, ‘try your hardest and that is good enough’.

Take Some Stress Off Their Plate

Once school is over, they may decide that they want to head off to university to get some more qualifications and start on their chosen career path. This can be an incredibly stressful part of their life and it is important that you are there for them. They may not know where to study, so take some time out to help them research different universities. Once they have found one, it will be a case of heading over to take a look around. If they want to go there and it is quite far from home then you might need to start looking for student accommodation

Help Them In Some Of Their Subjects

Not every child is going to shine in every subject, and that’s completely normal. They’ll have areas where they feel confident and others that take a little more effort. Schools are usually pretty good at spotting this and will step in with extra support, extra practice, or additional learning if they notice a child slipping behind. It’s also common for kids to start avoiding the subjects they find toughest  especially something like maths, which can feel frustrating when it doesn’t click straight away. This is where gentle encouragement makes such a difference. Alongside the support they get at school, using Cazoom Maths at home can help build confidence in a way that feels more fun and less pressured.

As a parent, it helps to remind them that these subjects are only part of their journey through school — unless it’s something they’ll go on to study at university, it won’t define their future. A little reassurance (and a few helpful tools) can make the whole experience feel far less daunting.

Hire A Tutor If They Need One

Finally, if you think your child will be better off with a tutor then this is an option to look into. During the Covid-19 pandemic, when schools were shut a lot of parents were relying on virtual tutors to catch their children up on missed learning. A tutor will work with your child on subjects they aren’t so keen on and find fun ways to keep them engaged and learn the fundamentals. Make sure you take your time finding the right tutor, not everyone will be the right one.
