Nothing beats sinking into a soft hotel bed. The beautiful linens, thick comforters, and abundance of pillows make hotel beds far superior to our own ones. Considering the fact that we spend one-third of our lives sleeping, it makes sense for us to want to replicate hotel standards in our own bedrooms. When it comes to how to style a bed like a hotel, it’s about all components. From the bedding and linen to the colour scheme of the room, everything matters.

Get a Good Mattress
To make your bed as comfy as a hotel bed, you’ll need a high-quality mattress to match. Of course, this will cost you a great deal of money, so be sure you’re prepared to make the investment before you begin.
Hotels rely on luxury mattresses to give the ideal degree of comfort, support, and pressure relief to ensure that their visitors enjoy a restful night’s sleep. These mattresses can be either hybrid, classic innerspring, or memory foam. Hybrid mattresses, which strike the balance between sturdy innerspring coils and body-cradling memory foam, are becoming increasingly popular.
For side sleepers, these mattresses give tailored support to the lower back while also reducing pressure building beneath the shoulders and hips. They are also intended to reduce motion transmission, allowing guests to sleep well without being disturbed by a prospective bedmate. High-quality hotel mattresses also use specific materials such as permeable fibres and copper innerspring, to help regulate temperature and increase air circulation to keep your body cool while you sleep.
If you prefer to keep your own mattress, you can consider investing in a plush mattress topper. Generally constructed of memory foam or latex, a mattress topper further cradles the body and adjusts to your every curve for a pleasant but supportive sleeping experience.
Select Crisp, White Bed Sheets
You may have observed that most expensive hotels lack colour – this gives a room the appearance of newness and cleanliness. The all-white bed helps create this halo effect.
The white sheets hotels usually use are made from a variation of cotton material and have a high thread count. Cotton sheets are the preferred option by hotels for various reasons including cotton’s softness, durability and breathability. Different types of cotton white bed sheets available include:
- Egyptian Cotton – a popular choice in hotels due to its luxurious and soft, year lightweight characteristics. Egyptian cotton sheets also have great flow and are highly durable.
- Supima Cotton – smooth and long-lasting cotton that holds colour very well compared to other fabrics. Supima cotton is very lightweight and fine yet pretty durable.
- Cotton Sateen – hotels don’t use silk or satin because they are delicate and can trigger allergies. Instead, they use cotton sateen which is silky smooth, hypoallergenic and has a shiny sheen. Cotton sateen is also easy to care for as they are machine-washable and wrinkle-resistant.
- Cotton Percale – Cotton percale sheets are crips and durable and tend to soften with every wash. It functions similarly to cotton percale sheets but is lighter and airier.

Another factor to consider when buying white bed sheets made of cotton is the thread count, which is the number of threads used per square centimetre of fabric. It is quite relevant to cotton materials, so it’s important to look for the right thread count. A higher thread count is preferable, but only to a point.
A thread count of 300 to 500 is good for comfortable, durable, and breathable bed sheets. Lower thread counts feel harsher and wear out faster. Technically, you can get thread counts greater than this (up to 1000), but it’s a marketing ploy that adds no softness or durability.
There is no way that 1000 high-quality threads can be squeezed into one square centimetre. Despite the higher thread count, the used threads are of low quality, which is a waste of money. When the thread count is fairly high but the sheets are cheap, this is a good sign that the sheets are of poor quality.
The staple length has a bigger impact on the feel and quality of cotton sheets than the thread count does. The length of the thread fibres is known as the staple length. While long-staple and extra-long staple fibres are supple and flexible, short-staple fibres are hard and pointy. Top hotels use long-staple linens because they are dependable and comfy.
Choose the Right Pillows
Hotel owners evaluate a variety of considerations when selecting the ideal pillow for their establishment, including firmness, size, and filling quality. This is why hotel pillows are so much more comfier than those we use at home. Here are the characteristics a hotel will examine when selecting pillows.
Size
The size of a pillow can have a considerable influence on the level of comfort it gives. Larger pillows are often used for comfort, whilst standard pillows can be utilised to support certain portions of your body when sleeping. You can buy some standard pillows for support and a large one for sleeping. A few small pillows might assist in relieving strain on your upper or lower back if you wake up with discomfort.
Firmness

While you may have a preference for the hardness of your pillow, it’s critical to choose the proper sort to guarantee you’re getting the right amount of comfort and support to avoid neck strain. If you’re a front sleeper, you need very little height as your spine remains relatively straight. As a result, a soft, thin cushion is the ideal choice. Medium to firm pillows is your best bet if you sleep on your back. These pillows will help elevate and support your neck, keeping it in a neutral position. If you like to sleep on your side, go for a firm and thick pillow to help keep your spine and neck aligned, hence avoiding stiffness.
Quality
The quality of a pillow is determined by the cushion cover as well as the stuffing utilised. Most high-quality pillows will have either a synthetic down replacement or real duck or goose down or feathers.
A 100 % breathable cotton cover is the most common choice. Cotton is soft and retains its warmth well, making it ideal for use in pillows.
Add Layers with Comforter and Duvet
One great way to achieve the luxurious aesthetic of hotel beds is with layering. This will give you a soft and comfortable sensation that will make you want to melt into your bed.
This can be accomplished by adding a duvet and a comforter to the mix. If you select a thread count of 300 or above, you should be able to achieve that soft and silky smooth feel on the bed.
Colour Choice Matters
Another key consideration when replicating the hotel room look is to match the colours of your bed. This includes the sheets, additional layers from your comforter, and pillowcases.
For the sheets, you already know that the white colour is the best choice as it has a clean appearance, making it a nice backdrop for the rest of your bed. For the other components, attempt to match the colours to those in the rest of the space. If you match them properly, you will be able to capture the cosiness of a hotel room.
