One of the destinations we cannot wait to return to when it is safe enough to travel again is Cyprus. It’s one of the islands that holds a lot of memories for me as it’s where my husband and I spent our honeymoon. We would love to return to the island with our two young children and stay as a family. There’s so much to see and do, the beaches are beautiful and the people are the friendliest we’ve ever met whilst away on holiday.

Where to stay in Cyprus

There are many accommodation options on the island but one of the ones that appealed to us the most after our most recent stay were the Villas in Cyprus. They are homes from home with an array of facilities and child-friendly features. Also, one of the advantages of villas is that most of them come with their own pool and that’s something we’d love the freedom to enjoy without other guests and other people’s children. We would be looking at hiring Villas in Paphos or villas on the east coast in Ayia Napa or Protaras as those are the areas we’ve stayed previously and really enjoyed.

Enjoy the beaches

The beaches in Cyprus are amongst some of the most beautiful we have ever set foot on. There are lots of coves, hidden caves and bays where families can enjoy the sunshine, play in the water and enjoy themselves. Fig Tree Bay on the east coast of the island was once deemed to be the third best beach in Europe back in 2011, it is just a really beautiful sandy beach and I know my boys would love to play on it. Additionally, Konnos Beach is a beautiful little bay with shallow water where there’s water sports to enjoy and a cliff side beach shack for ice creams and cold drinks.

Enjoy the water

Alongside the beautiful beaches of Cyprus, is the calm water of the Mediterranean Sea. You can take a boat trip, a cruise or a catamaran to enjoy the island from the water. Visit one of the popular water sport bays where you can frolic in the water with the family or learn to dive and snorkel to discover life under the waves.

Enjoy the history

Cyprus has a rich and colourful history. It’s a shared country by both the Greeks and the Turks and it’s capital, Nicosia is the last military divided capital city in Europe. South of the border is the Cyprus Museum which is home to archaeological finds from the Neolithic to Byzantine periods. In the West, a popular tourist destination is the Tomb of the Kings nearby to Paphos. Carved out of solid rock, the underground tombs date back to 4th century BC and are the burial sites of aristocrats and officials.

Enjoy the food

Food in Cyprus is incredible. Everything is so fresh and delicious, packed with flavour and incredibly mouth watering. Popular dishes include souvlaki (grilled kebabs) fried halloumi cheese and fresh salads with olives, tomatoes and cucumbers. There are many family friendly restaurants in Cyprus all serving delicious local dishes, you’ll want to return just for the food!

Cyprus is a beautiful country and we cannot wait to go back with the family one day. To visit the beaches, play in the sea, enjoy the culture and the history and enjoy the food. It’s a wonderful place to visit with the family.
