Our Shilton Boys // May 2018

May Siblings // A look at how my Shilton boys are getting on together plus a couple of my favourite photographs taken of them both in May so far. 

It was a year ago this month that I found out I was pregnant. We never really spoke to Olly about the prospect of him being an older brother whilst we were trying for a baby as I didn’t want to plant the seed about him having a sibling if I couldn’t ever guarantee it for him. I never wanted to give him false hope or give him any unnecessary anxiety about a baby so we never spoke about it in front of him.

We need not have worried because Olly is the best big brother that Freddie could ever want. He’s caring, attentive, cheeky and clever. He’s fiercely loyal and only wants the best for his little bro. Whenever I go to school to pick him up of an afternoon, he is the first to look in the carrycot to check his brother is okay and then will entertain (or dismiss) my questions about his day.

I’m pretty sure Freddie will be hanging off every word that Olly says once he’s old enough to understand. At the moment Freddie follows Olly around with his eyes and will now move his head in the direction to look and see where his big brother is. Freddie lets Olly hold him and will happily sit in his lap, for a few seconds at least.

Olly has been talking this month about when Freddie will join him in his bedroom. He’s quite excited by the prospect, although it’s not going to happen for a long time yet. He’s very willing to share and that’s a quality I really love in Olly despite him being an only child for nearly five years.

Now Freddie is becoming a lot more aware of his surroundings, Olly wants to help more. He wants to feed him, hold him and entertain him although the nappy changes are still non-negotiable. He loves to push the pushchair home after school. He really is the best big brother and he makes me so proud.
