Have you got a baby on the way? Congratulations! It’s time to start planning, here are three ways you can get organised in anticipation of your new arrival.

Tick off your list of baby items
It goes without saying that although they’re small, babies need a lot of stuff. While many non-essential items are marketed to new mums, even if you plan on keeping it simple there are lots of things you’ll need to get before the arrival of your little one. Depending on how you’re going to feed them, you might need a breast pump and storage bags. You might need bottles, a steriliser and a bottle cleaning brush. You’ll need clothes, blankets and a pram. Somewhere comfortable to put them down, like a baby swing or bouncer, and a safe place to sleep like a moses basket. There are lots of extensive lists online that give you ideas for all kinds of things you might want or need, so one thing you can do at the start of your pregnancy is write a list. Do your research to figure out which products you want to buy, and that way you can spread the cost. When friends and family ask you if they can buy a present for the baby, you can ask for something off the list so they can be sure it’s something you actually want and need. It prevents you from ending up with too many newborn baby outfits as gifts, which people tend to buy as a default.
Is baby’s Nursery ready?
Getting your baby’s nursery all set up is something really worthwhile doing during pregnancy. Many people argue that it’s pointless as they won’t be sleeping in it for months after they’re born, but it will need doing eventually. Would you rather curate the room when you’re pregnant and excited, or when you’re sleep deprived with a six-month-old?! When you have a designated space for your baby in the home it allows you to stay organised too. You can hang up their clothes in size order ready to be worn. You can stockpile things like nappies, wipes, and baby toiletries and put them in the drawers. It also gives you a space to go and sit and think about your impending arrival and take it all in which is so nice in the last few weeks of pregnancy. If you’re not finding out the gender, it’s easy to keep things neutral and still create a beautiful nursery, check out some ideas on sites like Pinterest.
Have you written your Birth Plan?
Your birth experience is something that you’ll think about more and more by the end of your pregnancy. Of course, birth is unpredictable and you never truly know what will happen, which is why it’s worth taking the time to think about what your preferences are. Maybe you’re set on a medication-free birth, but if things don’t work out that way, which types of pain relief would you be prepared to have? In an emergency situation, would you prefer a c-section or forceps/ ventouse delivery? No one wants to dwell on what can go wrong, but any birth injury solicitors would tell you that trauma can happen, so do consider what options there are. Knowing what you want ahead of time (instead of just going with the flow) means that if you come up against bumps in the road, you don’t have to make decisions when you probably aren’t thinking the clearest.
