A bit late for the monthly update as Freddie is now 11.5 months old but one I wanted to write to conclude his first year with us. It’s been a busy month for Freddie with lots of Christmas activities to join in with as well as weekends in both Shropshire and London. He’s taken it all in his stride though despite being poorly with new teeth popping through and a nasty cold.
Freddie is fearless. He seems to be much more outgoing than Olly was and I’m sure that’s because he sees what his big brother does and wants to copy and join in. He’s just this weekend taken to climbing the stairs so we’ve had to move a safety gate to prevent him scaling them. He doesn’t mind climbing over things to get on his way. Freddie has mastered the crawl and is now standing on his own without support and has on a couple of occasions, taken a step or two without assistance. He mostly uses his surroundings as something to hold on too and will happily walk around with a hand on the furniture. I thought he would walk before Christmas Day but that doesn’t seem likely now.
Freddie has been teething over the last month or so and now has two bottom teeth and his two fang teeth at the top. His two middle top teeth are erupting through and I’m sure they’ll be moving down in he next two weeks. We have used everything possible to alleviate his aching gums (teetha granules, teething gel, calpol, nurofen, teething rings etc) and whilst they’ve helped during the day, nothing seems to settle him at night.
Sleeping wise he’s been very hit and miss with sleeping through. In fact I can’t remember the last time he went down at 8pm and slept until 7am. We’ve had wake ups during the early evenings and at random times during the early hours, it seems his teeth and his cold have played havoc with him sleeping through. He’s still napping well and will go down for a nap for an hour in the morning and a couple of hours in the afternoon. He’s a good napper generally and I can pop him in his cot whilst he’s awake and he will self settle himself to sleep. Something we never could do with his brother!
Feeding himself is Freddie’s preference and he does get a little unhappy if you try and spoon feed him. At the weekend he enjoyed sprouts and pigs in blankets, he loves sausage. He’s not too keen on wafer thin ham or chicken but he loves a bit of bacon and a sausage to chomp on. He’s very good at drinking water and will drinks lots throughout the day. We’ve tried him on cows milk and will be making the switch soon but he’s not too keen and much prefers his formula milk. He’s on 3 bottles a day; one 6oz when he wakes up, one 4oz after his afternoon nap and 6oz before he goes to sleep. We are still using the Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep machine in our bedroom and it’s a lifesaver at 4am when nothing else will soothe him back to sleep!
He’s a bit of a chatterbox and loves to chat away but only when he’s in the mood. He loves to people watch and take in his surroundings. He’s not too shy either and isn’t afraid of seeing lots of different people in one place.
We are very much looking forward to Freddie’s first Christmas and I can’t wait to make memories with him and the rest of the family. What an exciting twelfth month he has in store!
