It already seems ages ago but just a couple of weeks ago, we packed up the car and spent five days on the south coast. Being from the Midlands, I crave watching the waves lap up on the beach and to take in that fresh sea air. We had booked a luxury lodge with all the mod cons in Littlehampton as our base and couldn’t wait to get in the car and explore the coast. There’s lots of photographs to share as a photo diary if you will.
We stayed in the area last year when we visited Butlins in Bognor Regis and wanted to come back in the warmer weather. We made a beeline for Worthing and as the weather was beautiful we headed to the pier and for a walk along the promenade.
The atmosphere in Worthing was fantastic; everyone was enjoying the hot weather, families were playing on the beach, sunbathing in swimwear and soaking up the sunshine (although my photograph doesn’t show it, they were there!) Lots of people were in the sea enjoying the waves and the clearest water I have ever seen off the coast of the UK. It was incredible.
We walked along the pier and enjoyed a drink in Worthing Pier Southern Pavilion whilst taking in the most beautiful views across the water.
Later in our week, we returned to Worthing but the weather was much cooler and rather damp. We enjoyed a walk on the beach, a spot of shopping and dinner at ASK Italian. Such a lovely spot to enjoy the seaside.
As we were staying in Littlehampton, we decided to drive down to the beach and set up camp for an afternoon of fun on the beach. We had a beach tent, got all the swimwear ready and of course, the bucket and spade and we spent the afternoon and early evening on the beach. It was so hot. Olly didn’t waste any time and got straight into the tent as soon as I had popped it up and got changed. He couldn’t wait to splash in the water and get to work building a sandcastle. Shilts also had a swim in the sea too.
Freddie had a play in the sand and got his first tasting of it too! We took him for a paddle in the sea so his feet got wet then we introduced him to the sand which of course he tried to eat. His face was so funny!
It was a really lovely evening watching Olly play on the beach and we got chatting to an older lady who had driven to the beach for a swim. Shilts fetched us fish and chips from ‘Freds’ and we ate them on the beach. It was such a chilled evening watching the sun go down until we got back to the car park and we found that our car had been blocked in by the height barrier. We still had the roof box on and we couldn’t get under the barrier with it on. We were not impressed!
Brighton & Hove
On Tuesday we headed further down the coast into Brighton which is a city we have never visited before. We were due to do a bit of work for Sea Life Brighton while we were there (see the awesome video below) which was brilliant fun.
The Sea Life Centre in Brighton seems much bigger than the one we have up in Birmingham so it was lovely to have a look around and take part in the Lego Ocean Explorers challenge.
On Wednesday we were in Bournemouth for the ODDBODS event we had been invited to. It was a beautiful day and we got to spend a full day in the sunshine enjoying various activities and then the rest of the day was our own. It was such a lovely day and we loved spending some down time on the beach and in the water. We want to go back next year if we can and enjoy more days on the beach just having family fun.
We had a lovely few days away. In hindsight we wish we had booked for longer however the weather took a turn for the worse too so it looks like we did take advantage of the best days on the coast. The seaside will always have a huge part of my heart. The sea just calms me, makes me forget about all the worries of normal everyday life back home and just relaxes me. We need to move!
