Olympic Meme..

Jen over at Suburban Mum has tagged me in an Olympic Meme and with only 7 weeks to go until the London 2012 Olympics kick off, there’s no better time than to embrace Olympic fever and answer a few themed questions.

If everyday tasks were an Olympic event what would you get a gold medal in?
I would love to say that I would get a gold medal in housework or cooking but realistically I’m actually quite good at being organised. I usually know when peoples birthdays are and when bills need to be paid. I’m good at making appointments and making sure the home admin is all dealt with. Hubby would probably say I’m an Olympic winner in nagging or similar!

As a child, or now even, did you excel at a particular sport?
Not at all. I was rubbish at pretty much anything athletic. In Year 10 at school I joined the schools first ever Girls Football Team and we got to the Final of the Staffordshire Cup which was pretty good considering it was our first year of being formed.

These days I’m not bad at Zumba and i’m trying my hand at running, I’m still not brilliant at it but it is getting easier with every session I do.

Michael Phelps (swimmer) or Michael Johnson (runner) – which sport appeals to you more?
I’d be tempted to say Michael Johnson but I do love swimming and being in the water. I’m hoping to take up swimming again in the next few weeks but will have to travel to a leisure centre near my work as the one in my local town is being rebuilt.

How fast can you get out of bed and ready to go out the door if you miss the alarm and sleep in?
There may have been the odd few occasions when hubby and I have overslept and we’ve woken up at the time we’re supposed to be at work! We’ve managed to get out the house in about 15 minutes and that included getting the dog fed and watered. I hate rushing though  so it doesn’t happen very often.

What fantasy sport would you like to see made into an Olympic event?
Oh tough question..

Claim to fame time: have you ever met an Olympian and who was it?
I once met Eddie ‘the Eagle’ Edwards when I was about 8 years old. He was asked to cut the ribbon at the opening of our local park and we had our photograph taken with him. From what I remember he was a lovely man and didn’t mind us asking for photos and autographs but i’m sure we didn’t have a clue who he was in ‘real’ life.

What event in past Olympics can you remember most vividly?
I can remember watching the games back in 2004 and Kelly Holmes winning the Double Gold for Great Britain in the 800 and 1500 metres events. She is an amazing athlete and is an inspiration to us all.

Tuning in at home or tickets clamped in sweaty palms?
Hubby and I have got tickets for the Olympic Football.  We’re going over to Coventry to watch both the Mens and Womens football. On Thursday 26th July we’re going to be watching Belarus versus New Zealand (Mens game) and then on Saturday 28th July, we’re going to be watching Japan versus Sweden (Womens) and then Canada versus South Africa. It should be a fantastic event and we’re really looking forward to going to watch some Olympic events and say we were actually there!

Who do you think most deserves a gold medal (any walk of life not just Olympians)?
There are so many people who I think deserve a Gold medal so I would award my friend Tanya, a medal for her determination and positive attitude; I would award Gary Barlow a gold medal for his commonwealth song, ‘Sing’ and organising the Jubilee Concert and I would award my hubby a gold medal for putting up with me and my ways.

Now I have to pass on the baton so in true 4×400 style, there need to be three more team members:
Lauren..She has just completed her uni studies so knows what it’s like to put in a lot of hard work and her baking skills are fantastic
Rebecca.. This women is incredible. She has started running to both get fit and lose weight and she’s doing brilliantly.
Paul.. A fellow WW and is doing brilliantly with his weight loss journey.  Always very supportive and motivational so would be great to complete my Olympic team.

Will you be watching the Olympics? Do you have tickets for any events? Will you be supporting any other countries? {sig}
