The Lockdown Diaries – Week Two

It’s now the Easter break and we’ve relaxed the school work in favour of lazy mornings, Disney films and fun in the garden. Last week we had our second week of lockdown and on reflection, it was a hard week. I think we were all counting down until the weekend for a break towards the end. Having both the boys home and trying to get Olly to do any sort of school work is difficult. Freddie doesn’t understand why he’s home and not playing with him all the time so there’s been a bit of tension.

The Lockdown Diaries – Week Two

This week we did relax the routine with more gentle starts to the day. Sorry Joe Wicks, it’s not you, it’s us, we’re just not ready to do PE first thing in the morning! We know we can access the workouts online so we’ll use them throughout the week if we want to put some of the boys pent up energy to good use!

We’ve been getting very creative every day. We have printed off reams of colouring in sheets, worksheets and activities to do and we’ve been enjoying colouring those in. Once Freddie is occupied with his colouring, we have been doing a set of school work; either English or Maths. After lunch as Freddie naps, Olly has been doing the more demanding homework in peace. It seems to have been working so far!

I’ve been really conscious about not setting myself up to fail with the school work. I could plan out a whole day with 3 or 4 lessons on it but in all honestly, it’s just too much. Having a toddler at home is hard work, let alone having to try and teach and encourage Olly to learn something new. I’ve been using different ways of learning this week. We’ve made cookies, we’ve planted cress and repotted some plants. I’ve also encouraged the boys to get involved more with the housework and we all stripped the beds together and I showed Olly how to make his own bed.

We’ve also watched several YouTube videos about the International Space Centre as Olly is really fascinated by it so we’re using the theme of space and learning more about it.

Looking forward to Easter

I won’t lie. I’m looking forward to the Easter break. We should have been away in a caravan somewhere enjoying the beach but alas, we’re not. We’re at home and not allowed to go out and enjoy the sunshine aside from in our own gardens. I’m really pleased that Greg has two weeks of annual leave from work so he can help me with the boys and keep them occupied so I can catch up with a few blog admin tasks and have a bit of a breather.

My self-employed blog work has been hugely reduced. I only have one piece of work to complete and then I have no future income which is worrying. I am still working with my social media client for a couple of hours a week which is something and I’m grateful, they’re still keeping me on but it’s not going to pay the bills. I’m trying not to stress too much about it, worse things could happen and it’s not like I’m on my own, lots of people have lost work too! It will get better, storms don’t last forever.
