Especially in the UK, our climate changes continuously. But as a parent, you may find it difficult to find the perfect choices for your little ones nightwear during the seasons. In this article, Millie & Ralph are here to guide you through some recommendations and advice for the perfect seasonal nightwear for your baby.
Winter
In the Winter time the cold temperatures can differ from lower digits, to bittering below zero temperatures, so additional layering is a must. Layering during the Winter months is obviously key, but some great choices that will work effectively for this could be having a vest as their first layer, a sleepsuit for their second and either wrap them in a swaddle or sleeping bag.
Keeping away from duvets and covers is important, as babies kick and wriggle, which may lead to them becoming cold if the covers were to come off of them. Instead, choosing a swaddle or sleeping bag can ensure they are tucked in and extremely cosy.
Touching back on clothing, choosing soft, cotton material clothing will help ensure they stay warm and cosy. You can also check the temperature of their stomach to see if you need to add or remove any additional layers of clothing. If you have a room thermometer, then try to keep the temperature steady and constant, at around 16-20 degrees, with 18 being the perfect recommended temperature. These figures should help keep your baby at a comfortable temperature alongside their layers, without overheating.
Spring
The recommendations from Winter carry on similarly into Spring. Here in the UK, the Spring time will feature an array of low and at times, still below zero temperatures. If you find this is the case, then carrying on with a similar routine will work best, whilst monitoring the room temperature to see what is the most comfortable for your baby.
If you do find that the temperature does become slightly higher or more humid, then simply removing a layer could be the best option. For instance, if they are wearing a vest and sleepsuit, then you could leave the vest, or maybe even choosing a lighter material sleeping bag or swaddle can work perfectly.
Summer
As we etch closer and closer to the Summer months (where we hope to see some sunshine!) The nightwear choices for your baby will begin to change. If you are in the UK, typically our temperatures differ, so you may find nights similar to Spring temperatures where you can keep the same routine in place as before if you feel that is the right choice. However, more nights will approach that offer a vast increase in temperature and increased humidity.
Keeping the clothing options lighter and airy is a must, more breathable options mean your baby will remain comfortable and less likely to have a broken sleep. A simple vest and light swaddle can be the perfect pair to keep your baby the perfect temperature. As the vest and swaddle work hand in hand to provide warmth, whilst their arms and legs can remain cooler.
If you do find that the temperatures are particularly hot, even a bodysuit/vest will do the job, as sometimes the more humid climates can be difficult to bear.
Autumn
And just like that, Autumn appears. Autumn is a season full of surprises, one day we can have warm temperatures, the next it may as well be Winter. All of the options above work hand in hand for Autumn due to the differing weather conditions. If you face more humid/warmer weather then looking at the clothing options you use for Spring/Summer can work ideally. Although, if the temperatures decide to drop, considering the options between Winter/Spring can work together.
As a parent, you know when your baby is happy and comfortable. Determining the best clothing options for your little one is a day to day decision but as time progresses it will become even simpler.
