Britax Advansafix Car Seat // Review (2015)

As part of the Britax Mumbassador scheme, we have had the great pleasure of testing out one of their forward facing installation car seats, the Advansafix.

The Advansafix is a multi group car seat (Group 1/2/3) and is designed to grow with the child. The car seat can be used from 9kg (around 9 months old) up until the child is 36kg (around 12 years old). Being able to buy a car seat that will see your child through their childhood is a huge selling point for me. No need to buy another car seat when they grow out of a particular stage, with the Advansafix you just modify the car seat to suit the group the child is in.

For children under 25kg, the five point safety harness provides ultimate protection with the performance chest pads reducing forward movement when strapped in. For children between 15kg and 36kg, the harness can be removed and the seat can be used with a seat belt.

The Advansafix is full of great features that I really like and provides ultimate protection for Olly.

Installing the Advansafix

I am a huge fan of ISOFIT. I really like how the seat is attached to the car using the ISOFIX points and the green indicators on the Advansafix car seat provide reassurance that the car seat is fitted correctly.

The Advansafix also has a Top Tether which gives an additional element of protection for the child in the seat. Make sure to check with your vehicle user guide of where the car tether point is in your make of car.

Britax recommend that Parents use the vehicle belt when using the car seat for children in Group 1 and 2. The seat belt is threaded through the back of the chair and adds another element of security for the child.

What we think of the Advansafix

We have been using the Advansafix in our secondary car for many months now and we really like it. At first I didn’t get on with the harness. I found it really difficult to pull the straps tight enough to provide suitable protection for Olly. This was soon sorted as I removed the car seat from the car and adjusted the shoulder straps.

I would recommend doing this as soon as you notice your child to have had a growth spurt to ensure the straps are not only comfortable for the child but also provide adequate protection. Adjusting the headrest to suit Olly is something we will continue to do so on an ongoing basis.

Currently, we are using the Advansafix in Group 2 mode with the 5 point safety harness, the top tether is secured and the seat belt has been threaded through the back of the seat. We will continue to use the car seat in this mode until the harness no longer fits around Little Mr.

The multi position recline on the seat is a great feature as Olly is notorious for falling asleep on the way home. I recline the seat before we set off. Therefore, I know that he is going to be comfortable for the 45 minute drive home.

As with all car seats, I would highly recommend spending some time getting to know the features of the car seat. This is to make sure you’re using it to its full capabilities. I love the Advansafix multi installation protection system. It gives me peace of mind knowing that the seat is installed correctly. We will be using the Advansafix in my car for many years. I hope it will continue to provide ultimate protection for Little Mr on our travels.
