Another month down of 2020. This year is flying by isn’t it? February for us was all about celebrating our big boy’s birthday, keeping busy over half-term and de-cluttering and getting organised round the house.

Me and Mine February 2020

Happy 7th Birthday Olly

Olly turned 7 years old and we had a brilliant day out at The Silverstone Experience for his birthday treat. He had a Fitbit Ace for his birthday along with Lego and some books. He loves to read lots of an evening and he loves to make up his own stories. Maybe one day he’ll publish his own book? No idea where he gets his ideas from, his creativity is brilliant.

We had a brilliant Parents Evening for him just before half term and he had a glowing report. He’s a bright button with a caring and sensitive side who loves to help others and get involved. He makes me so proud. Don’t get me wrong there are times when he doesn’t listen and he’s a proper grump but we all get like that don’t we? We are very lucky to have such a good natured boy who has some brilliant friends and now enjoys school.

Happy days over half-term

Half term was very wet but we made the most of it with days out to see family and friends. The boys went to see their Grandparents on a couple of days with a play date with their cousin Kye. They love playing with him, despite the age difference.

We also made some big changes with the boys bedroom which was great. It’s something we have been planning for a while (see my plans here) and haven’t had the time to do it. They’ve had new wardrobes and new storage in their room and we’ve finally got everything of theirs in one place. We’ve been decluttering and it feels so good to be making changes.

I went down to Bude with my Sister, Parents, Cousin and Aunty & Uncle. We were clearing out our cousin’s house (you might remember he passed away in September) and we think we’re nearly there. It’s been a labour of love as we have all fallen in love with the house as it’s 10 minutes to the beach but the house needs a lot of love and attention (as well as money spent on it) and unfortunately it’s just not possible with us all living in the Midlands. It’s definitely helped me with my own decluttering at home realising we can’t take any of our belongings with us when we pass away. It’s a sad realisation and unfortunately sometimes it’s difficult to handle.

Slimming World progress

I’ve also been doing well with Slimming World and to date (29th February) I’ve lost 21lb (1 stone 7lb) over 8 weeks. I’m really pleased with my progress and for me it’s really been a positive change to how I’ve approached the challenge in hand. I have a lot of weight to lose (think 7 stone and you’ll understand why this is a huge challenge!) and I’ve tried to not put any pressure on myself. So far it’s working and I’m seeing the changes slowly but surely. My progress is definitely spurring me on to make more positive changes and stay on plan. I’ve been meal planning each week so check those out if you want to see what I’ve been eating.

Looking ahead to March

We hope March will be a drier month so we can get out on the scooters and get lots of fresh air. Hopefully our new front door will be fitted and it will transform the front of our house. We’ll have sold the old nursery furniture which has been in our bedroom for far too long and we’ll have plans in place to update our bedroom. We are desperately in need of a new carpet and the walls need a good refresh so that’s on the cards too.

Making changes to the house means we have to sacrifice other things like fewer days out and less treats so we have to do things in moderation and within budget. It will all be worth it when it’s done, hopefully!
