Living Arrows – Week 30
“You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth”
As a general rule, we’re a land based family. I personally don’t get on very well with being on the water and get terribly sea sick so we don’t usually opt to take opportunities on the water wherever that may be. This weekend however we were given the opportunity to take a boat trip on the River Avon at Stratford Upon Avon and as I’m trying really hard to introduce Little Mr to new experiences, we decided to embrace the moment and hop on board a motor boat.
Hubby was given the chance to captain the motor boat which he was completely made up about and Little Mr loved getting his life jacket fitted. We told him why it was important for him to wear the life jacket and he wore it proudly and couldn’t wait to get on the boat.
We were given Boat number 13 to sail in which made me a little nervous but I was hoping it was lucky for some! Little Mr climbed aboard the boat and took a seat at the bow. I climbed aboard and took my seat next to Little Mr whilst hubby sat in the driving seat. As soon as hubby began to drive the boat, the grin on Little Mr’s face made the experience completely worth it as he absolutely loved it.
We sailed up and down the River Avon, for just 30 minutes but it was a fantastic experience. We sailed down to the Church avoiding rowing boats and river cruise boats and it was a great way to see some of the sights of Stratford Upon Avon.
As Little Mr was behaving really well aboard the boat, hubby said he could sit with him to drive the boat along a quieter part of the river and of course, he absolutely loved it. It’s not very often you get the chance to drive a motor boat along the river when you’re two years old!
We were incredibly lucky with the weather, it was dry and warm in the sunshine, perfect for a boat trip along the river. Little Mr had a wonderful morning on the boat and I was really pleased with how well behaved he was. Surprisingly and to my delight, we all really enjoyed it and it’s something we’ll definitely look at doing again.
We were given a certificate to hire a boat for 30 minutes from Avon Boating Ltd courtesy of QHotels Stratford Manor. You can find out more about hiring a boat and sailing along the river here.
