Disney movies: What is next?

Disney is one of the most prolific names in the media and entertainment industries. Since The Walt Disney Company first launched in 1923, the brand has manifested beyond the films themselves into theme parks, merchandise and even a streaming platform. Fortunately for fans, there’s always something to look forward to. But what’s on the horizon? Here are five new Disney movie releases to look out for.

The Marvels

Marvel fans can rejoice as this film is set to feature the action and epic storytelling that’s central to so many of the films. It will feature Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel and WandaVision, amongst others. While the plot itself is mysterious at this stage, fans are taking guesses on where they think the plot will go. The endings of past Marvel plots have invited speculation in light of unanswered questions, making this new release a highly anticipated film. The film will come out in the UK in November 2023.

Wish

Wish will be released in November 2023 and despite the limited advertisement surrounding the film, it’s set to draw in a huge swarm of fans. The film is set in the magical Kingdom of Rosas and follows Asha, a 17-year-old girl seeking the role of the king’s apprentice and learning how to make people’s wishes come true. Expect original songs, watercolour style art and innovative use of CGI. Directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee were behind Frozen, one of Disney’s most successful releases, so expect big things.

ELIO

Sci-fi and space lovers will love this Pixar-animated adventure. Set to be one of the big family-friendly films of 2024, it’s a story that follows an alien abduction, where they mistake the human child as the ‘leader of the Earth’. Under this new title, Elio must go with the flow. But there are plenty more surprises in store involving his mother who works for a top-secret Government agency. Expect plenty of comedy and that classic feel-good factor that’s typically of Disney Pixar films.

Snow White

Following the success of other live-action remakes like The Little Mermaid, Snow White has stirred a similar level of anticipation. It’s set to come out in March 2024 and will be directed by Marc Webb and written by Great Gerwig, who has seen huge success after directing the recently released Barbie film. It’s set to be a live remake of the 1937 film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, including its much-loved songs, although it’s set to have a few twists and turns. Snow White herself will be played by Rachel Zegler who has also featured in films such as West Side Story

Inside Out 2

Inside Out was a hugely successful animation from the Walt Disney Pictures Pixar Animation Studios released in 2015. Its huge success as a feel-good, family-friendly film has resulted in a sequel being released almost a decade later in 2024. The film will follow protagonist Riley into her teenage life, covering the ups and downs this entails. Much of the same cast is set to voice the same beloved characters, including Amy Poehler (Joy) and Kaitlyn Dias (Riley).
