Birthdays come around once a year and are the day to celebrate your loved ones’ brilliance. As a Mum, I am always thinking of ideas for gifts for friends and family and have a repertoire of go-to small businesses for thoughtful handmade gifts and trinkets but what do us Mums want for our own birthdays? As I slide well and truly into my forties this week, here’s a look at some gift ideas that would be very well received by me.

A nice handbag
Once the baby and toddler years have passed, it’s time to upgrade the rucksack for a handbag for Mum. Small enough for day trips out with enough pockets to keep all the essentials safely tucked away. I love bags from one of my favourite brands, Radley London, notably recognised by the use of the adorable Scottie dog in a number of their designs. I’ve purchased a number of bags from them over the years and they always last well. They’re super stylish, available in a number of fantastic colourways, made incredibly well and help to finish an outfit off beautifully.
A decent coffee
I cannot get through the day without a decent coffee. Maybe it’s my age, but coffee helps set me up for the day and powers me through the hustle and busyness of life. My go-to coffee machine at present is my trusty Dolce Gusto as I can switch up the coffee pods of choice and my coffee is ready without fuss in a matter of minutes. I am however lusting after a bean-to-cup coffee machine. I’d love one that allows me to change up my coffee beans with the season and also steams my milk for that perfect latter! I’m after one that delivers the perfect coffee every single time. Alternatively, if Mum has a favourite coffee shop, why not get her a gift card to enjoy at her leisure. A decent coffee and ten minutes to herself would probably mean the world.
A delicious scent
I love a good scent and never leave the house without spraying on my favourite perfume. I love how a scent smells differently on different people and love that it helps you feel ready for an occasion or event. People always remember different scents they’ve enjoyed and they are good for us too! They aid memory and boost positive emotions. Check out parfumdreams for a fantastic range of perfumes from many of your favourite brands, ideal as birthday gifts and for ‘just because’!
A spa day
If you gave Mum the chance to take a day off and spend it at a spa, I can guarantee she’d probably jump at the chance. A spa day gives the chance for prioritising wellbeing, a chance to relax and unwind. Partake in a well deserved pamper, perhaps a massage or a facial, or even a manicure. Who doesn’t love a pamper and to spend some quality time with their own thoughts enjoying the peace and quiet.
What would you like to receive on your birthday? Have I missed something off the list? Let me know in the comments.
