One of the best things about my blog is the opportunities it brings so when Little Mr had an invitation to test out the HelloHome StarBright Toddler Bed from Worlds Apart, I hastily replied on his behalf.

A bit of background

You see, sleep and Little Mr have had a very turbulent relationship. He loved it as a newborn and slept really, really well. This obviously lulled me and his Daddy into a false sense of happiness when it came to bedtime to be rudely brought back down to earth with a bump when at 10 months old he refused to go to and stay asleep!

Fast forward, 18 months and a major case of sleep deprivation later and we may have just cracked it with Little Mr sleeping through the night albeit in his cotbed.

Many of Little Mr’s friends have made the move from cotbed to toddler bed and as a first time parent, I was a little unsure of when to begin the move for Little Mr. Making the transition from cotbed to toddler bed is a huge deal, especially for toddlers who a) love to sleep in the safety of their cotbed and aren’t comfortable with the freedom an actual bed with no sides brings; or b) hate being trapped in their cotbed and often climb out. Luckily for us, Little Mr is a little bit lazy and hasn’t decided to embark on scaling the sides in a bid for freedom just yet so I knew we had time to sow the idea of a ‘big boy’ bed and make our slow transition.

When the HelloHome StarBright toddler bed arrived, I was excited. Perhaps this marked the start of his transition as Little Mr loved the idea of a toddler bed just for him. He was even more delighted to discover that the night light in the headboard projects stars onto the wall so he was excited to try it out.

Assembly

The HelloHome StarBright Toddler Bed needs assembling and I took on the task one afternoon when hubby and Little Mr were out shopping* (*unable to provide their opinion and assistance.) It was relatively straight forward to put together with easy to follow instructions and it was up and ready for use within an hour and a half.

The HelloHome StarBright Toddler Bed comes without a mattress but a standard size cotbed mattress (measuring 140cm x 69cm) fits perfectly fine.

Features

• The toddler bed is the perfect height for little ones to climb in and out of which encourages independence
• The cloud shaped headboard is adorable and is a real winner
• The night light projects stars onto the wall and offers light for up to fifteen minutes then automatically turns off
• Protective side panels at the top end of the bed help to prevent tumbles and offers reassurance to little ones that they’re not going to fall out.
• A built-in side table which can be used to store books, teddies or can be used as a side seat for parents
• The toddler bed frame is made from MDF so is really sturdy and can take the weight of an average adult (It’s not recommended but my hubby has actually slept on the toddler bed when we’ve had a rough night with Little Mr)

How Little Mr has found the toddler bed

Little Mr’s transition from cotbed to toddler bed is still ongoing. We have built the bed and it is currently in Little Mr’s bedroom next to his cotbed. We have had several nights where Little Mr has slept in the toddler bed but has always climbed out during the night and it has made for disturbed nights sleep for everyone. Little Mr does love the toddler bed. He adores the nightlight and will happily lie in the bed looking at the stars above him whilst Daddy reads him a bedtime story and looks rather comfy on his new bed.

Ultimately, Little Mr at the age of 27 months old, still isn’t ready to be moved from his cotbed to his toddler bed permanently so we’re still making the transition but I don’t think it’ll be too long until he’s ready. He loves the Star Bright toddler bed and I know that when the time comes he’ll be happy to climb in and (touch wood) sleep soundly all night long.

The HelloHome StarBright Toddler Bed from Worlds Apart is priced at £149.99 and is available online and in several major retailers. I think the price is great value if you’re looking for a toddler bed which will help make the transition smoother for little ones. I would hope that the bed would last at least a couple of years before they grow out of it and they need to move into a bigger bed.
