We are big fans of Aldi Mamia products and currently use and love their award winning nappy range. They’ve recently introduced a brand new selection of Aldi Mamia Premium nappies in selected stores and we’ve managed to get our hands on some to put them to the toddler test.

Introducing Aldi Mamia Premium Nappies

This weekend my 22 month old toddler, Freddie has been testing the new premium line of Mamia nappies. The nappies are said to provide more comfort and protection with a range of unique features including extra soft material, stretchiness, DryFast Technology™ with a wetness indicator.  I wanted to find out how they stood up to the claims and as we’ve had an action-packed weekend, it was the right time to see how they coped in action.

On Saturday morning we went over to Birches Valley, part of Cannock Chase Forest to see Santa in his Grotto. Freddie and his big brother Olly had tickets to see Santa so we were very excited to meet him. We love spending time in the forest, with their welly boots on and lots of layers, we wrapped up warm and set off to explore.

Once we had arrived, there were lots of muddy puddles which Freddie loves to jump in. He’s got no fear at all when it comes to puddles, the muddier the better. We found pine cones and smaller fir trees as well as lots of Christmas trees for people to take home. At 11am, it was time for our Grotto experience and we saw real reindeer, threw fake snowballs at Daddy and sat in a big sleigh. Unfortunately Freddie wasn’t a fan of meeting the main man, thankfully we don’t think Santa took it personally!

Great nappies for active toddlers

It was too cold to explore more of the forest. We headed home where we changed Freddie into his pyjamas and he went down for a nap. The new Mamia Premium nappies are really soft and fit Freddie really well (he’s currently wearing size 5 nappies). He wore one of the new nappies for 4 hours whilst we were out and they were great. Freddie had drunk quite a bit of water whilst we were out and we didn’t experience any leaks or mishaps.

After an afternoon snooze, Freddie’s best friend popped round for an hour of play. This of course included running around with toys, playing trains and eating snacks. Oh to be a toddler again!

In the early evening, we decided to put our Christmas tree up. This is an activity that Freddie loved helping with. He doesn’t really understand that baubles and decorations are meant to stay on the tree but it was lovely to see his reaction when he saw the Christmas tree lights flickering away.

How did they cope overnight?

Bedtime soon came around and it was time to have a bath and read a story. We like to dress Freddie in comfortable pyjamas and a fresh nappy before bed and I was interested to see how well the new nappies coped overnight.

Freddie wore a nappy overnight for 12 hours and by the morning, the nappy was clearly full as the wetness indicator had changed colour. The nappies have a fast absorbing core which locks away wetness quickly and evenly. Sometimes when Freddie has a full nappy in the morning his skin can be damp and irritated with a distinctive odour. However in the morning, his skin was dry and clear with no obvious smell which I’m really pleased with.

They passed the active toddler test

Although I have been using nappy pants for an easier life with a wriggly toddler, I’m really pleased to see how well the new Mamia Premium nappies coped with his active lifestyle. I’m definitely tempted to switch back to nappies after trying these out as some of the features are really good. I love how soft the nappies are and the wetness indicator is brilliant. Especially for quick, at a glance checks throughout the day.

  1. Ive been using the premium nappies for about 3 weeks and I’m quite impressed too. I usually use them during the night for my 3 month LO and use the standard mamia nappies during the day. I was looking for a nappy that would last the night as I wasn’t very confident on the standard mamia nappies keeping baby dry and leak free. The new premium nappies are great. The price difference takes a toll on your wallet when your so used to using the standard brand though. But its not as expensive as the branded ones on the market.
I’m so glad they have the pee indicator!
