After years of broken nights sleep, a husband with a CPAP machine to combat sleep apnoea and two young children, could one mattress help me get a good nights sleep? We’ve been trialling the Origin Hybrid mattress over the last 8 weeks and I’m delighted with how the trial has gone so far!

Before Origin: Broken Nights Sleep & Backache

Disturbed nights and awkward sleeping positions left me feeling completely drained. Between my husband’s snoring and the constant shifting of his CPAP mask, I rarely managed more than 5 broken hours of rest. Each morning, I woke stiff and sore, dragging myself through workdays in a haze of exhaustion.

The NHS Reality Check

Being constantly shattered isn’t just “mum life.” The NHS says most adults need roughly 7–9 hours of sleep; fall short and you’re likely to feel tired and low. NHS workplace guidance adds that fatigue can dent concentration, performance, patience and empathy — not ideal when juggling full‑time work and family. NHS Every Mind Matters also reminds us that sleep is foundational to both physical and mental wellbeing. That was the nudge I needed to prioritise a proper sleep set‑up at home.

Why We Picked the Origin Hybrid (King)?

The Origin Hybrid King has truly transformed my sleep with its thoughtful design and quality build. The firmer support instantly eased my lower back pain, giving me the relief I needed after years of restless nights. Its cooling technology including the SnowTencel cover and breathable layers — keeps me comfortably cool, even when sharing the bed with my husband and occasionally a child who sneaks in.

One of my favourite features is the outstanding motion isolation. I no longer feel every movement when my husband adjusts his CPAP or when our kids decide to starfish across the bed. The combination of the HexaGrid comfort layer, natural latex, bamboo wool, and ventilating pocket springs work together to create a stable and supportive sleep surface that doesn’t transfer motion.

The eco-friendly materials and clever layering not only make the mattress breathable but also give it a luxurious, hotel-quality feel. With its balanced firmness and supportive structure, I wake up after 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep feeling more rested and ready to face the day.

Inside the Mattress: Key Layers

  • Cool‑touch cover for breathability.
  • HexaGrid orthopaedic comfort to spread pressure with minimal sink.
  • IceCool / natural latex that’s springier & more breathable than classic memory foam.
  • Bamboo wool airflow to wick moisture.
  • Individually wrapped pocket / “antigravity” springs for responsive support + ventilation.
  • Reinforced edge system so you can actually sit / resettle without sliding.

Unboxing & First Feel

Our new mattress arrived rolled up tight in its delivery box which needed two very strong adults to hoist it up the stairs to our bedroom. We placed the mattress on the bed frame to allow it to expand and we couldn’t believe how rapid it was. Within half an hour it was already mostly expanded and we were surprised at the lack of “new mattress” smell. Something we’ve experienced in the past and has always put us off getting a new mattress since!

The mattress looked comfortable from the outset. It looks and feels luxurious and we couldn’t wait for it to settle. Our first lie‑down: cool, taut, properly supportive and a little bit excited for bedtime!

Firmness & Comfort

Origin is on the firm side and that’s been brilliant for my back and side sleeping — no more hip dip. I sleep “on” not “in” the bed. We used to sleep with a hefty mattress topper on our bed but we have taken it off to feel the real effects of the new mattress and so far so good, we don’t miss the old topper at all!

Cooler Nights

We’ve had some very warm nights over the last couple of weeks with the British summer making an appearance. Not to mention, the middle of the night sweats my husband seemingly experiences every night so I couldn’t wait to take advantage of a cooler sleeping environment. The Origin stack – cool‑touch cover, breathable latex, bamboo components and spring airflow has noticeably reduced heat build‑up and it’s been brilliant helping my husband to regulate his body temperature.

Sleep Apnoea & Us

My husband was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnoea over ten years ago and (mostly) sleeps with a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine. This helps keeps his airway open throughout the night reducing the need for him to wake and gasp for air, subsequently waking me and the children up. It is a horrendous condition to manage and Greg needs his sleep to be able to function well in life at home and at work.

“As well as sleeping with a CPAP machine and mask, the other most important thing about good quality sleep is having a comfortable mattress.  The ability to be able to drift comfortably into REM sleep is essential to feeling refreshed in the morning and being able to wake up alert and ready for the next day. The mattress therefore combined with the mask and machine means that relaxation can be achieved quickly at night, and therefore obtain the optimal conditions for achieving the deep sleep required so as not to build up or add to the sleep debt that is so common for sufferers of OSA.” The Origin’s stable surface (good even at the edges) makes propped side‑sleeping easier for my husband and he’s generally sleeping much longer throughout the night which definitely helps me have a less disturbed nights sleep.

Am I Sleeping Better?

Yes – dramatically. Since switching to the Origin mattress, I average close to 7 hours of mostly continuous sleep throughout the week. That aligns with the NHS adult range and it shows: clearer mornings, fewer cranky snaps at dinner‑time, sharper focus in work. NHS workplace and mental‑health resources repeatedly link adequate sleep with better functioning, mood and health – I feel that difference daily.

Who It’s For (at a glance)

  • Best fit: Back and stomach sleepers, plus size sleepers, parents who share with kids or pets, and couples needing strong motion isolation.
  • If you sleep very hot: The multi‑layer cooling design helps, but extreme hot sleepers might still want breathable bedding and good room ventilation.

Pros & things to consider

Love

  • Firm, even support (great for back / stomach).
  • Motion isolation that copes with children + CPAP users.
  • Cooler nights.
  • Strong edge support.
  • 200‑day trial + 15‑year guarantee = low‑risk try.

Things to consider

  • Non‑removable cover (invest in a mattress cover to prevent sweat stains)
  • Heavy to manoeuvre (needs 2 strong adults)

Final thoughts

If family life and a partner with sleep apnoea have wrecked your nights, upgrading to a supportive, low‑motion, cooler mattress is a fix you can control. The Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress (King) has helped me reclaim real rest — I’m finally waking after proper sleep, not survival naps.
