We have recently had our garage converted into an additional living space and it’s a project we cannot wait to get complete. ‘The Den’ as it is now affectionally known, is accessible from the bottom of the stairs and will be a room for the boys to let their hair down. It will be home to the games console, the large screen sports television and my husband’s beloved dart board set up. If you’re looking for inspiration to bring a slice of Manhattan’s iconic neon charm into your home, you’ve come to the right place!

The Vision: A Neon Wonderland

When we first envisioned the boys’ den, we wanted to create a space that felt energetic, vibrant, and a bit nostalgic. What better way to achieve this than by incorporating some dazzling neon elements reminiscent of Manhattan’s bustling streets? The goal was to blend fun, style, and functionality seamlessly.

Choosing the Right Neon Sign

The centre piece of our project is, of course, a custom neon sign. We spent hours browsing through various designs and have recently settled on a classic “One hundred and eighty!” in a bright blue hue. The sign perfectly captures the competitive spirit of dart games and will add a pop of colour to the room.

Setting Up the Dartboard Area

Next, we focused on the dartboard setup. We chose a high-quality dartboard that came with a sleek black backing to complement the neon sign. To ensure safety and add a professional touch, we will install a protective surround. My husband is so excited to get it all set up as it will instantly become the focal point of the room. To enhance the neon theme, we will add a few more neon accents around the room. A neon clock in the shape of a dartboard is a fun find that will tie the whole look together.

The Finishing Touches

To balance the boldness of the neon, we kept the rest of the decor relatively simple. We opted for a ‘Manhattan Grey’ paint for the walls, which made the neon lights stand out even more. Comfortable seating in shades of navy and black will provide a cozy yet stylish atmosphere. A few framed prints of our favourite sports team completed the look, making the den a true mix of urban and modern.

Can’t wait to make memories

The boys’ den will undoubtedly become the go-to spot for family fun nights and gatherings with friends. Transforming a room with neon can seem daunting, but with a bit of planning and creativity, you can create a space that’s both fun and stylish. Whether you’re in Manhattan or miles away, a touch of neon can bring that unique city charm right into your home. Stay tuned for more family lifestyle tips and home projects. Until next time, happy decorating!
