The many changes our bodies go through during our lifetime can cause stretch marks. Whether you are pregnant, lost or gained some weight, or simply growing up, your skin will stretch and shrink and it will leave some consequences.  Even though stretch marks are very normal and common, they are still a huge insecurity for many people. If you are looking for ingredients and products that will help minimize the appearance of stretch marks, you have come to the right place.

Try these ingredients

Body positivity is a great encouragement, and whilst we should all work on accepting our imperfections, wanting to fade out the scars on your skin can also be a part of that process. So, which ingredients to try out?

Before you turn to using retinol or prescription creams, maybe try the natural route first. The main reason those chemicals are recommended is because they enhance the effect of Vitamin A. However, Vitamin A can sometimes be irritating and is not suitable for pregnant women.

A good alternative would be using products enriched with essential oils and Vitamin E. The Cradle & Tonic Body Oil includes both ingredients, and these will help with skin elasticity and refreshment through antioxidants. All lotions and oils should be applied continually, and immediately after showering to get the best results.

Another important step comes during your actual shower routine. Aloe vera and products free from sulfates and parabens will ensure you are not further drying the skin out. If you pick a shower gel that meets the criteria, you can relax knowing you will be nourishing your skin with the good stuff.

Hyaluronic acid is also helpful for moisturizing, and if you are looking for a natural exfoliator, try making a homemade sugar scrub. Another ingredient that can help is coconut oil. Many balms will include coconut oil and butter, and you can massage them directly into the areas where you have stretch marks.

If none of these work, you can try some medical ways of getting rid of stretch marks. The American Academy of Dermatology has noted a few: laser therapy, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, radiofrequency therapy, and others. These will usually require a few appointments before you can see any results.

Keep in mind

There are many different things people recommend to help reduce stretch marks, but be careful when trying them out. Natural doesn’t always mean it’s safe since our skin is sensitive and prone to inflammation.

Whether you opt for the nourishing oils and balms, or laser therapy we must tell you that none of them guarantees that your stretch marks will completely disappear. They will only help minimize their appearance, helping you feel more confident in return.

The most important thing is to moisturize well, avoid irritating and drying products and track which ingredients best help your skin heal. If you are pregnant, consult with your doctor before deciding on any of those options. Finally, remember confidence is built from within, stretch marks or not!
