Our Shilton Boys // October 2020

October has been a good month for our boys. Despite not being able to see family or friends due to local restrictions, they’re both doing really well and making us proud in various ways every day.

F R E D D I E

Potty training has started

We started potty training with Freddie this month. I had previously bought a seat for the toilet and a step stool for our bathroom and a noisy Thomas the Tank potty for downstairs so was ready to begin when I thought he was ready. Cue Freddie saying on a random afternoon that he needed a ‘wee wee’ and sat on the potty to do his business, I was shocked but delighted and ready to crack on with it.

Since then, he’s been steadily improving and whilst on a typical day he’s doing really well, we still have a way to go. We’ve been using the same nappy pants as Olly wore and I’ve bought him some little pants to wear around the house to get him used to the fact he can’t do a wee in grown up pants!

Enjoying phonics

We have started back at our phonics class which we enjoy with Robot Reg. Last year we were invited along as guests to review the class but we enjoyed it so much we decided to pay for another term and go along to the new covid safe classes. Freddie’s speech is coming along brilliantly and his confidence in talking out loud to other people is really developing. He still gets shy when having to dance around in front of other people in the class but I cannot fault his enthusiasm for wanting to learn new words and use them at home.

O L L Y

Olly is doing really well in school. He’s going into school each morning without fuss and long gone are the days when he used to get upset. It makes me so proud to see him wave me off in a morning with a smile. His confidence has really developed and I’m loving that we get smiles instead of tears each morning.

We had his half term report today and it was fantastic. His new teacher is really pleased with how he’s settling in to the juniors and it’s clear he’s a real social butterfly in school. He loves to learn and is always seeking out new things, I love that he has a thirst for knowledge.

We also had some indications back from school as to where his learning is and it’s all above national average with a reading age of 11. For a 7 year old boy, this makes me so happy to know he loves reading and is capable of comprehending what he is reading.
