The Lockdown Diaries – Weeks 3 & 4 (Easter 2020)

I don’t know about you but I can not remember what day it is when I wake up. We’re already on Week 5 of lockdown and my last diary entry was week 2. That pretty sums up how busy we have been trying to entertain the boys and keep them happy and not squabbling over pencil sharpeners and the last homemade cookie.

We had an Easter break over Weeks 3 and 4 as Greg had some annual leave to use up and Olly would have been off from school anyway so we had a break from the school work and I had help with the boys around the house. It was also Greg’s birthday so we had chocolate cake and a yummy M&S meal deal dinner which was a nice treat.

Easter eggs for breakfast

It’s not that we went anywhere or did anything hugely exciting but we did have some fun and ate chocolate eggs. I prepared a little Easter egg hunt for the boys on Easter Sunday morning. I bought a printable from Etsy and cut out the clue markers and dotted them around the house. It was a fun 15 minutes watching the boys look for the eggs and trying to find their treats. Freddie decided he wanted to eat his chocolate Easter egg (in the shape of Thomas the Tank Engine) for breakfast so I let him crack on.

We also popped round to the in-laws back garden and played safely whilst they were in the house. They have a wonderful garden which is brilliant for the boys to run around in. Much safer than walking to a local park. My Mother-in-law had decorated some cardboard eggs and hid them in the garden for the boys to find.

Loving the sunshine and fresh air

The boys have been playing in the garden and using the back garden as another room. I am so grateful for the sunshine right now. It is lovely to be able to go out and enjoy some fresh air out there. It’s also made me want to put new festoon lights up in the back garden and get some more cushions so it’s a real haven to enjoy in the summer.

With our fifth week in lockdown nearly over we’ve finally found a new routine that suits us. We have been implementing a chore chart for Olly to work with and that means we can get his school work done and he gets screen time if he does his chores. We (Olly mainly) still has the odd meltdown about something irrelevant but it’s working so far!
