The sun is out and the countdown to the end of term is on. The late afternoons after school are spent in the garden playing in the paddling pool, kicking a football around and playing with toys whilst enjoying the beautiful weather. There’s also air of excitement that this summer could be one of the best yet as I’m at home over the school holidays as I’m still on maternity leave. This is going to be our summer of adventure and we’re really looking forward to it.
I’ve always been envious of other parents who have been able to share the summer holidays with their children. Previously Greg and I have booked a couple of weeks off work and we’ve crammed in as much as we can with what we wanted to do with Olly within those two weeks. Unfortunately that’s the reality of working. This summer it’s completely different as I’m off on maternity leave with Freddie and can enjoy the whole summer at home with my boys. I cannot wait! Greg has booked some time off too so we can go off on family adventures and tick off some summer fun from the family summer of adventure bucket list.
What’s on the Summer of Adventure bucket list
- Make sandcastles at the beach
- Enjoy a picnic at the park
- Learn to ride a bike with stabilisers (Olly)
- Go swimming
- Spend a day out with Nanny and Grandad
- Visit a castle
- Go strawberry picking
- Make fairy cakes
- Go to the cinema
- Go to Thomas Land
- Paint rocks and hide them
- Enjoy a crafting day with Nanny
- Watch the planes at the airport
- Ride on a train
- Ride on a bus
- Visit a farm
- Have a playdate with friends
- Hunt for shells at the beach
- Enjoy lots of ice creams / ice lollies
- Splash in the sea
Recently the kind folk at the Disney Store sent Olly a huge box of Marvel goodies recently and they’ve been perfect for him gearing up to the summer holidays. He’s loved getting his Spider-Man splash suit on and playing in the water. I can’t believe how lovely the weather has been of late for him to be able to enjoy the sunshine and the paddling pool. He was also sent a Marvel towel which has been essential for when Olly gets called in to eat his dinner, he can dry off and I have no soggy bottoms at my dining table!
To plan his summer activities, he was sent a Spider-Man note book and zip up stationery kit. He’s been busy filling up the pages with ideas on what to do, creating masterpieces as memories of our evenings outside and lists of his friends of who he wants to play with over the summer. I love looking back at his hand writing and his arty pictures. To see the world through his eyes for just a glimpse on the page is fantastic. I love his sense of adventure and his ideas. It’s just brilliant.
After dinner he pops on his favourite Marvel t-shirt and it’s back into the garden with his Spider-Man action figure to enjoy the last hour of sunshine before bedtime. No summer evening would be complete without an ice cream, well it is the summer after all!
Of course, no summer would be summer without planning on going back to school and Olly has been sent a fantastic Spiderman backpack along with a Spiderman drinking bottle. He’s been itching to wear it for school over the last couple of days and I’ve resisted so far as I know how excited he’ll be to pack his bag for school in September.
With only three weeks of the school term remaining, I’m excited to get planning and see where our summer adventures takes us. It’s going to be so much fun… and exhausting but I can’t wait!
