It was such a lovely day on Saturday we decided to hop in the car and go exploring. When we have a free day or just need some time to ourselves, we like to jump in the car and just drive. I had read about some lavender fields out in the countryside so I gave my husband the postcode and off we went.
We drove out into the fields of Shropshire which is a good half an hours drive from us and found the beautiful fields full of Shropshire lavender. It was free to walk through and explore the different varieties of lavender, watch the bees collecting pollen and spot a butterfly or three.
It was really lovely to watch Olly spotting all the wildlife. He wasn’t frightened or scared of the bees and was in awe of the butterflies, wanting to get up close to them and then chasing them as they fluttered off across the fields.
There was also an orchard to explore with lots more flowers and wildlife to see. It was a really nice afternoon in the sunshine and we could have stayed there for hours.
We wanted to go strawberry picking on the way back home as we knew of a couple of fruit farms that were out that way but unfortunately, due to the heat, the strawberries have been ruined and the crops weren’t fruitful. We were all disappointed but found a great farm shop with an amazing deli. They had a cheese tasting afternoon on which my husband loved and it was doing a roaring trade so must be very popular in the area. They had a play barn on site too which we didn’t have time to explore but now we know its there, I think we’ll definitely be back.
We also made some plans for the Summer holidays. Both my husband and I all year round now but we’ve managed to book some annual leave off to spend some time with each other and Olly over the school holidays. We’ve got a couple of days out planned, a camping trip with my family and a day out by the seaside. I just hope the weather stays nice for us to enjoy our time outside.
